Scally went the distance in a 0:1 loss to Lippstadt today. Looks like he was right back. Lippstadt was in relegation danger and thus highly motivated. Gladbach II is in 12th place in the table out of 21 teams so they’ll pretty much stay in the Regionalliga West.

No, Scally went for 2-7x 60% of Richards. Still likely more expensive, but if Richards sells now for $15M, that $7M total to FC Dallas.

I don’t know how likely Scally is to getting up to $7M.

Further confirmation that he's going get a shot at 1st team action this season:

And that's where Scally's main task comes into play over the next few months: To present yourself in the best possible way in order to recommend yourself as an alternative to Lainer. His position benefits him because the competition in the right-back position is not as great as in the center, for example. In addition, Lainer will still be missing in the preparation for the first few weeks due to his participation in the European Championship. Scally has to use that and show in the test matches that he adapts faster than, for example, his left-back colleague Andreas Poulsen.

    From the club:

Since January 1st of this year Joseph "Joe" Scally is officially a Foal. In the second half of the previous season he had strengthened the U23 of VfL, now mixes @jjscally_10 in preparation for the new season with the professionals and wants to recommend himself there.

Too bad that he didn't at least get a shot on target. Hope he's improved his defensive game.

On the real, I'm happily surprised this odd scenario with the lack of playing time outside of the last 6 months seems to have worked out for him and Gladbach. I wonder how he was scouted and projected so well by Gladbach?

He was a very highly rated USYNT player, and that NYCFC academy team with he, Gio, James Sands, Tayvon Gray, Andres Jasson, etc. could’ve gone toe to toe with some of the world’s best academy teams. He was seen by a lot of Euro clubs in his youth career.

Yeah I don't feel like he was some sort of "secret prospect." He was one of the top prospects in MLS academies.

He's definitely developed well both as a dribbler and as an athlete. He's pretty imposing already for a right back. He gives me strong RCB in a back three vibes.

Yeah, I just took another look at his highlight vid and he has CB height with decent RB speed and solid dribbling ability. He will definitely get Bundesliga minutes this season.

That's great. We seem pretty stacked at RB now and none of the other RBs project ad RCB in a back three.

    Defensive depth

I personally think that Scally will be our 2nd RB.

Michael Lang didn't play a BL game for BMG in 2020-2021 so not sure how much this improves Scally's situation. I guess its better then nothing though.

I'm noticing that Stefan Lainer started 43 out of 46 games for BMG last season. (It looks like the guy who started the other three as a wingback is now gone.)

That's not great news for any backup, but maybe they just didn't have anyone they trusted in that rotation last season?
