I apologize for the bland title but I'm not good coming up with creative puns. I thought it was time to get this thread started with the urging of @bungadiri :p and the official news of this transfer now a week old though...

Not in the squad for the first game. I don't want to overreact to one game, but I have a feeling that this move is going to set his development back.

I don't think any of the guys that transferred from mls will get much time. The coach already said he didn't ask for them but an agent or something brought them over.

Very odd move (by Cruz Azul) for someone who had only shown some potential in the MLS. Some drunken dealings? A bet lost?

If Villarreal gets loaned to Ascenso MX it's fine, better he plays there than riding the bench for the Galaxy.

Why can't he be traded to another MLS team? I'd even rather see him be loaned to a USL team than 2nd division of Mexico.

Some of these MX teams pull incredibly stupid moves from the organization and players standpoint. Bring in players who won't be used and throw away money like it grows on trees.

Unless they've got some sort of player swap going but when they asked the coach he had no idea they where headed his way. In addition, they've got 3 potential NT players ahead of them in the midfield if that's their position.

Villarreal is mainly a second striker but he can play on the wing in a pinch. Farfan is an AM/CM...

This was a horrible loan. Neither player will play a minute with the first team in the league all year, and it will be a big set back for Villarreal's development.

Looks like Rafael Baca may have made the squad. Which doesn't directly help Villareal obviously but does mean they are at least looking at the guys they transferred.

Baca on the bench for tonight's game again, but no Villarreal or Farfan.

According to goal.com (I think it's Ives reporting), Villarreal and Farfan have been held up by paperwork, and that's why they haven't made the gameday squad yet.

... although with Cruz Azul in first place, they're unlikely to get rushed into the mix.

But they'd at least be able to send them to Hidalgo if/when the paperwork goes through.

Looks like the paperwork has in fact gone through, as Farfan and Villarreal have now been added to the roster on the Liga MX site. But according to this article, only Baca will be on the bench this weekend.

The others did get a game last Sunday against a Mexican army team. If I'm interpreting this article correctly (and I may not be), it sounds as if they had Farfan at right mid and Villarreal at right back.

I realize that, but the article credits Farfan (volante) and Villarreal (lateral) for their combination play on the right side.

I'm used to volante meaning midfielder and lateral meaning outside back.

I think he could be a good left wing back.

Villarreal and Farfan (as an over-age player) both started and subbed off around minute 70 while winning 1-0. Game ended 1-1.
