I know that one day we all hope that Jose Mourinho will take over that National team. But in the meantime I thought we would start a thread following His Progress in the E.P.L

Today Jose Mourinho praised Hernan Crespo saying that he has had 4 good training days. He also said that in a couple of days they will decide if he will stay at the club. If he does no Drogba. But if he leaves or Chelsea let"s him go then they will sign Dieder Drogba.

Mourinho today slammed Tottenham and Postiga saying that he never should have gone to the prmeirship because he can not play in the air and he has not enough fight in him. But he plays well with the ball at his feet. which is perfect for Portugal , Spain or Italy but not in England

PEDE AO ARGENTINO QUE SE DECIDA
    Mourinho lança ultimato a Crespo

Impatient Mourinho irritated by haphazard start

    By Clare Lovell

WEST DRAYTON, England, July 12 (Reuters) - For a man who likes order and precision Jose Mourinho is finding his first few weeks as Chelsea manager somewhat frustrating.

For a start, half his squad is missing most pre-season training, needing time off after the rigours of Euro 2004.

The internationals from six different countries will join their team mates piecemeal depending on how far their team progressed in Portugal.

On July 21 the squad leave for America for three friendlies, fixtures arranged before Mourinho was hired and which do not fit in with his careful preparation for the premier league season starting with a blockbuster against Manchester United on August 15.

He was, he told Reuters in an interview on Monday, at a disadvantage compared with United's Alex Ferguson and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger in that they already knew their players.

"It's complicated for me. I cannot just receive (half) the players and three days later have them play Celtic or AC Milan or Roma," the 41-year-old Portuguese coach said. "The most important thing is the Championship and the Champions League."

Some of Mourihno's irritation with the American fixtures arises from a growing realisation that his squad, while strong physically, still need a lot of work to hone tactical skills.

    TACTICAL CULTURE

"A top team player must have a big tactical culture to adapt on the pitch to every situation, to have the capacity to analyse play and to play in different ways," he said. "This comes with work."

Mourinho took unfancied Porto, a side with few big names and none of Chelsea's financial muscle, to the UEFA Cup in 2003 and to Champions League glory last May setting great store by tactical acumen, flexibility and knowing your opposition.

"If you play Italian teams you can expect a perfect defensive team, in Germany it will be very physical and super organised teams, from the Spanish you will get a creative and dynamic offensive team," he said.

While some of their training methods may concentrate too much on physical fitness at the expense of finesse, the Portuguese said he admired the English player for "a fantastic mentality to work, to really fight. They are ready to give everything." With the return of England's Frank Lampard and his France midfield team mate Claude Makelele alongside the other internationals, Mourinho expects standards to improve. "We can start working in a different way... on a better level," he said.

Mourinho is adamant he wants his final squad decided before the team leave for the U.S.

Chelsea have already shed some older players in captain Marcel Desailly and striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as well as Danish winger Jesper Gronkjaer who signed for Birmingham on Monday, joining former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot and on-loan striker Mikael Forssell.

    NEW ARRIVALS

New youthful arrivals include Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech, Dutch winger Arjen Robben and Portuguese defender Paulo Ferreira, who all progessed at least to the semi-finals at Euro 2004.

Serbia and Montenegro striker Mateja Kezman is awaiting a work permit but there is still a question mark over Argentine Hernan Crespo who arrived late for training and has been linked by newspapers with a move back to Italy. Marseille striker Didier Drogba could be on the shopping list if Crespo moves.

The British press have dubbed Mourinho arrogant. Certainly the manager, who grew up watching his father play in goal for Portugal and rubbing shoulders with national footballing heroes such as Eusebio, is self assured and ambitious.

Assistant manager Baltemar Brito describes him as "exigent (demanding) with a highly developed work ethic".

Keeper Carlo Cudicini said training sessions, which start and finish to the minute, were intense and required full concentration and commitment.

Precision, pragamatism and punctiliousness look like becoming the new watchwords at Chelsea, a club in the past rather more associated with fashion, flamboyance and fickleness.

But then Mourinho is not bothered about popularity.

Asked if he worried about Chelsea fans' affection for his predecessor Claudio Ranieri, he replied bluntly: "I was very surprised to see Mr Ranieri so popular but without a trophy in four years.

"In Portugal if you win you are a god if you lose you are sacked."

Chelsea draw in Mourinho's first friendly

LONDON, July 17 (Reuters) - Jose Mourinho's first game in charge of big-spending Chelsea ended in a stuttering 1-1 draw at lower league side Oxford United on Saturday.

Mourinho fielded a strong side for the friendly including new striker Mateja Kezman, signed from PSV Eindhoven, who equalised in the second half after Chelsea fell behind to a Tommy Mooney strike keeper Carlo Cudicini should have saved.

Oxford, from the fourth division of English football, are managed by former Chelsea assistant coach Graham Rix and coped well with the likes of Joe Cole and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Premier league champions Arsenal also played a strong line-up as they hammered minor league side Barnet 10-1 in their first pre-season friendly.

Jose Antonio Reyes, left out of Spain's Euro 2004 squad last month, hit a hat-trick as did forgotten striker Francis Jeffers, having returned from a year on loan at former club Everton.

Robin van Persie, Arsenal's new recruit from Feyernoord, scored one and looked impressive in his first game while new goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, signed from Celta Vigo this week, conceded early on when Barnet scored first.

    Mourinho: 'Results not important, yet'

Jose Mourinho intends to push his Chelsea players hard over the next month as they prepare to launch their bid for the Barclays Premiership title.

    Mourinho: Results not important (AdamDavy/Empics)

Chelsea were rarely extended as they opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw at League Two Oxford today but they needed a 67th-minute equaliser from new recruit Mateja Kezman to avoid defeat.

Mourinho claimed afterwards that his players were a long way from being at the high level of fitness he is demanding but was not unduly concerned about the result at the Kassam Stadium.

Mourinho said: 'I was pleased with the attitude of the players because it is not easy to play football when you are tired.

'They were already tired when the match started so I asked them for a big effort and they did it.

'Some of the performances were going down because they were so tired but this is what I wanted. I wanted them to feel the quality and intensity of the training.

'This is pre-season and the result is not important. At the moment they are not fit but after a period of hard work they will arrive at the fitness we need.

'The objective was to put them in a competitive situation in a football match and it was good.'

Chelsea now head off to the United States on Wednesday to continue their pre-season preparations. The likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard, who have been given extended leave after Euro 2004, rejoin the squad on Monday.

Kezman only linked up with the squad in midweek after his #5.5million move from PSV Eindhoven but was soon in the thick of the action and had a number of chances to open his Chelsea account.

His goal eventually arrived midway through the second half after good work from fellow new signing Felipe Oliveira, cancelling out Tommy Mooney's 42nd-minute opener.

Mourinho added: 'I imagine when he is really sharp, with the quality players behind him, he can be a really good player for us.'

Oxford boss Graham Rix was pleased with his side's performance as they claimed a morale-boosting result against his former club.

Rix said: 'I was pleased and we are moving in the right direction without a shadow of a doubt.

'I am happy but I am not going to get carried away. There is loads of work still to be done but we have definitely made a lot of progress.

'I was a bit disappointed to be honest because our passing and retention of the ball was not good.

'But I was probably expecting a four or five-goal onslaught in the second half but the lads stuck at it.

'The Oxford fans can go away pleased with what they have seen but knowing we are not the finished article.'
