He was the Jonathan Gonzalez of 2009. Shame his trajectory flatlined.

I recall Torres being very hyped years ago.

I've no clue if Gonzalez is all Hype or if he will deliver or simply be another name. But Torres was quite good some time ago. I'm not sure what happened. Or why he was dumped from the NT.

he started a group stage match in 2010 WC and played badly and that was pretty much it for him with USMNT.

pretty sure he could be good for an MLS team and he doesnt seem to be playing much in mexico, unless i'm mistaken....

kinda odd for a player with 26 caps with the USMNT to be as off the radar as he is....

The 2010 WC wasn’t “pretty much it for him with the USMNT.”

Klinsmann gave him an extended look when he was hired. Jurgen thought Torres was one of the players Bob Bradley overlooked or misused. Eventually Jurgen gave up too

Fact: 15 out of his 26 caps (58%) came under Klinsmann - after the 2010 WC

I don't recall him playing too terrible in the Slovenia match. But it was sometime ago.

Bradley should have realized Clark was not up to par. We had Edu/Feilhaber who were probably equally solid starting or coming off the bench. Torres might have been a good sub option though.

damn i didnt realize he played so much under JK! my bad....

i remember him not being even in the convo for WC 2014 and remembered that after JFT was subbed out at the half of the slovenia match (i remember him playing horribly that game).....and that Bob Bradley never included him again despite the USMNT having 14 more matches after the WC in 2010 under bradley.....

JFT was never a factor for the USMNT.

Aside from his horrible World Cup game, the only thing people are going to remember are 1) the hype around him being an amazing "dual national recruit" when he came on board in 2008 and 2) when Klinsmann said "anyone can play left back" and playing JFT there.

He's not a bad player but he really only works in a limited system. He cant't defend or beat people on a dribble. He's not really fast either. But if you give him space and a little bit of time, he can hit some very good passes.

This was a great pass. But again, he made it quickly with no one on him.

Hard to compare the hype since it's been a decade but he was a promising young midfielder with very precise passing and a good long distance shot. Started getting consistent PT at like 19-20 years old due to an injury but hit his ceiling very early in his career.

I can't believe that was ten years ago already. I remember it seeming like a pretty big win for the U.S. when he committed.

I just can't believe a guy this talented (yes he is still very good) does not push for a transfer to another Liga MX team. He has been riding bench for the last two years. The guys he is behind are really good so it is not that he sucks, Tigres just spends a lot of money on players. He can play in about 10 other teams in the league no doubt.

I'm still wondering whether Gonzalez is just HYPE. Does Mexico even value him?

Puebla, not Pachuca. Pachuca would have been nice since it is the team that developed him.

So much talent in Mexico that one day you are the man and the next day you are just another player.

Went the distance last night as Puebla opened up the 2018 Apertura with a 3-0 road loss to Cruz Azul.

    Highlights

During the 2018 Clausura he scored 2 goals in 4 starts with the Tigres U-20s.

As expected Gringo playing good. I hope other young americans learn a lesson if they ever get an offer to play for Tigres, run away because you won't be playing just practicing.
