First time on the bench for the B-side for Gomez. He was inactive for the 1st match - last week - after the winter break.

Just fell asleep and got beaten in behind for the late, game-losing cross/goal against.

Supposedly drew the pk on 1 of the 2 Sociedad B goals. So quite eventful day for him. Sounds like a mix of bad and good (decent 6.9 rating on Sofascore for the performance), but he may be a villain for the late faux pas.

Nevertheless, @TheFalseNine , this thread should get promoted to the main page. Sociedad B are in the 2nd tier of Spanish futbol.

I don't get how this is a foul, yellow card, and PK. Looks like they both slide into each other similarly, neither coming close to the ball. maybe the keeper slides more into JoGo, but... seems like just a collision.

    either way..

On the go-ahead-goal, he gave too much room for the winger to push the ball, he was not going to catch him for the block on the cross.

He appeared to go 90 in a 2-0 win.

From I read it was an up and down match for JoGo and Malaga really came at him. Apparently he had some shaky moments on the defensive side and couldn’t quite get it going on the attacking end. Read like he did just enough to keep Malaga at bay. Nonetheless….. it was a huge 2-0 win so the up and down match is nothing but a good learning curve.

He didn't play badly, but he wasn't great either. He does have the 'it' to improve.

Yeah just looking at those stats it seems like the sort of game where he’s still adjusting from the jump in level from USL. Which is to be expected, but good to see him go 90 and hopefully he keeps continuing to adjust.

He will, but still he wasted 2 years for no apparent reason.

I gathered from the Spanish language reports it was a typical match for a young player - good and bad but the potential is clear. There’s was a slang term they used which of course I can’t remember. It basically meant good learning experience. If there’s anything I know from watching him to Lou City….. the boy is a quick study.

JoGo had another good learning experience today. Another up and down performance but he’s getting the experience he needs. That’s most important. He’s not struggling by any means….. it!s more like adjusting.

Anyways….. he conceded a late penalty via handball but luckily his GK bailed him out with a save. Huge win over Real Oviedo who are in the promotion hunt.

You can see from that highlight clips above that JoGo is adjusting faster on the offensive side of the ball. He's growing more and more confident by the game. But what is not seen is a bigger adjustment on the defensive side. For the second straight week, the opposition focused on his side, trying to exploit him. Both opponents would run two or three players down his side and he was left trying to figure out to follow man or pickup the ball. He's also had trouble figuring out when to tuck-in or when to go wide when defending. JoGo isn't getting abused defensively by any means, you can just tell he's caught between two minds. He's not used to the movements, quick ball circulation, and speed of thought displayed by attackers at this level. It's to be expected. Those defensive tactics will come. He's shown to be an outstanding defender both 1-v-1 and positionally in the USLC. It's all about learning and gaining experience for him. JoGo is a quick learner. I am so excited for this kid.
