They barely avoided relegation. I think JDS can join a better team.

If he can then all the better, but there are no guarantees. I'm just saying that it wouldn't be a bad destination if he were to go there on loan as he would be familiar with the coach and his coach would give him confidence. He would be an upgrade over whoever they got in the midfield, which means consistent playing time. Let's face it, he's still a wildcard in first division, so it's a bit unrealistic to expect a top team to be looking for him. Plus, it wouldn't be much different than Gio at Mallorca. What he needs is playing time and what better to do it with a coach he's familiar with?

I didn't mean a top team. I meant more along the lines of a mid table team. I would say a team like Espanyol but Aguirre didn't renew his contract IIRC. Betis would also be a good choice for him.

There really isn't a big gap between those teams. I mean Espanyol was heading for relegation if it wasn't for Vasco. Betis was a newly promoted team last year. Sociedad barely staved off relegation two years ago and was a bottom half team last year. This year they're in the Champions League. There isn't a considerable difference in my opinion.

Damn I didn't know they spent that much time in the segunda.

This is my take on the situation as well.

I was thinking about it earlier in the context of an Aquino-UDavila comparison. I don't know what Davila's level is right now, but Chepo clearly prefers players he's either coached or seen play live regularly. Forget about minutes in segunda, Aquino is trusted because he was already part of the group when he left for Spain. Davila will get a chance to show whether he belongs with the prelist Gold Cup call. Jona had a good run to show what he had prior to 2010, but unfortunately under a different coach. His Copa America run was cut short, that was his first real chance (enough said) under Chepo/Tena. If he were still in Mexico like Fabian, he'd likely be back on the roster already.

I'm not defending Chepo's logic here, but I understood the lack of callups. Why no callups this Gold Cup? Beats me. Maybe they had the same discussion they had with Vela, only since there is a media war against Vela only that story came out. (I could also have missed the story)

I'm not ready to give up on him yet. As others have said before, his best bet is to get major minutes anywhere in a decent league. Given our midfield, that should at least earn him looks during 2014 friendlies, and then pre-WC camp.

Celta is an important team. Just like Villareal, and Real Sociedad, small budget clubs that sometimes have awesome seasons, and others... they get relegated. Celta took a few more years to return to first division, but its still a good team... plus JDS hasn't played much, and Celta doesn't have the money for a big name; therefore, he is more likely to start. It may sound mediocre, but JDS needs guaranteed play time.

Andres Guardado. Played three games for Mexico before being put on the list for World Cup by Lavolpe.

Espanyol have sounded out Barcelona on a loan of Mexican midfielder Jonathan dos Santos (23). Deal looks complicated.

He might still hold a grudge against Aguirre.

I agree with Skip that Celta or another team without a deep midfield would be his best bet.
