he's had like 7.5 years in Mexico and only like 110 games. A lucky mofo indeed

In a not-so-surprising occurrence, it looks like he is out at Queretaro:

I can say, I would not like to leave but there are decisions out of our control. That's football. I put everything in God's hands. I want to give thanks to white Roosters (companions, Hobby, club) for all that I have lived in recent years. I'll never forget the moments

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for Bornstein to expand his burgeoning auto mechanic empire!

So, he finally found his way to Israel. I recall his wikipedia page mentioning some Israeli club chased after him a decade ago.

Yes, he even came to Israel in 2008 with Benny Feilhaber where the two were supposedly going to sign with Maccabi Tel Aviv. It was a very interesting time. Maccabi Tel Aviv had a rather wealthy foreign owner and the idea was to bring talented players from abroad who would qualify for Israeli citizenship.

Maccabi ended up with French Jewish players, Jonathan Assous and Rudy Haddad. A far cry from what they had wanted that season.

Good for Johnny, hope he gets to win a title abroad. Of course, this effectively ends any minuscule hope of him returning to the national team (had he starred for some MLS team ala late-career Beasley).

Bornstein isn't even a soccer player....he is just using it as cover for his expanding mechanic business! :D

    Profile from that Shredder guy:

    http://americansoccernow.com/articl...ornstein-heads-to-israel-with-ambitious-goals

As he heads to Israel, Bornstein is knows that eventually he will have to decide what he wants to do after his playing career. He has his business in Mexico but would consider operating it in the United States to give his daughters access to the American education system. He is also considering getting his coaching licenses.

But Bornstein’s ambitious quest to play in high-profile European competitions has delayed his return to the United States and his strong ambition, whether it be at the club levels or entrepreneurial endeavors, also remains at internationally.

his ambition to play in high profile European competitions took a huge detour when he moved to Mexico 7 years ago instead of some Euro-league. Gotta imagine he'd have gotten on in some lower division Euro league back then.

Always thought he got the short end of the stick from USMNT fans but after five or so years I couldn't have guessed this was Jonathan.

Maccabi Netanya are currently participating in the group stage of the League Cup. Bornstein started the 1st and 3rd game while coming on as a sub in the 79th minute of the 2nd game. Maccabi Netanya have two wins and a draw and currently lead their 5 team group with one game left. The winner of the group advances to the semifinals.

Looks like a successful start. Hats off to Bornstein for having one of the most interesting careers in USMNT history.

I know JB personally (we played club together growing up), and he told me he was interested in going to Europe back in his CHIVAS USA days, but I think the Mexican league actually paid better than any of the leagues actually interested in him.
