New thread for Bornstein, as suggested by @bungadiri and @Scotty Muchas gracias to @TimB4Last for the thread title.
I would think that his weight gain in Mexico is due in part to his sedentary lifestyle and in part to following the workout regimen espoused by Tiger Woods.
Bornstein did not play in Atlante's season opener against Leon yesterday: http://msn.mediotiempo.com/futbol/mexico/ficha.php?id_partido=51286
Jonathan Bornstein went the full 90 minutes in Atlante's 1-0 loss to Mérida in Copa MX action tonight.— Over There (@socceroverthere) January 16, 2014
Bumpy field, goal was conceded by a wayward backpass. Bornstein looked to be playing d-mid and wasn't involved in the play.
Bornstein went another 90 yesterday. I am sensing a disturbance in the Force. A week after making his Atlante debut, Jonathan Bornstein made another appearance by starting and going the distance in the club’s 2-0 Copa MX victory over Merida. Bornstein was deployed in defense in the match and he helped the Potros de Hierro (Iron Colts) post a cleansheet while picking their first three points in Group 4. Bornstein and Atlante currently sit in second place in the group behind Pumas UNAM due to goal differential. http://www.soccerbyives.net/2014/01/americans-abroad-midweek-4.html
Would be funny if he kept on playing well and jumped on Brazil wagon at the last sec, causing a major meltdown on USMNT thread.
For those keeping track, Bornstein has now started 5 copa MX games for Atlante since January 15. He went 90 min in 4 of those games, and was subbed out once in 80th minute. Atlante has 2 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties in those 5 games. But to put things in perpsective, 4 of those 5 games were against second division opponents - only the most recent game against Pumas was against a first division opponent. Atlante has 6 more games before the friendly against Mexico on April 2. Is that enough time for Bornstein to work his way back into the team? Probably not, but you never know. As a left back, he's behind Parkhurst, Beasley and Castillo among US/Mexican-based players. After that though, it's wide open.
Started at went 90 min again last night in the copa mx match. How ironic would it be if he were able to work his way back into the nt picture before the World Cup.
