In my opinion Jon Stewart of the Daily Show is doing the best, most scathingly funny yet grimly real reporting on the war. It is a good perspective after all of the hyperventiliating on the "real news" networks.

A couple of nights ago he reported the multimillion dollar contract to douse the Iraqi oil fires had been awarded with no bid to Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney's former company.

Stewart's comment: "I feel like the government just took a ************ on my chest."

he's a "must watch" source of info in the superdave household.

His interviews glean more insight than anyone else's.

Ditto. He brings in some heavy hitters (well, not Hilary Swank...) and isn't afraid to throw something other than softballs...

So I guess we're back to "the Bushies want to rule the world" as the reason for this war, now that Haliburton's out of the picture...

I just can't keep it straight.

Haliburton isn't out of the picture - they are not going to be the general contractor. They still stand to make a lot of money off of this.

    Exactly.

People act as if Halliburton is the only company with connections to the U.S. government. All of these companies bidding for post-war reconstruction are heavy-hitting lobbyists in Washington. Halliburton is just the most obscenely obvious example of a corrupt system.

Then let me help you: Halliburton is out of the running because people like us were raising hell about it. It's called democracy and is sometimes a beautiful thing.

I watch the Daily Show regularly, and yes it is really funny. However, Jon is obviously a big liberal, and i don't always appreciate the leftist slant the show has. He regularly brings in these democratic senators, and they talk policy. Basically, he puts whoever on the soapbox and they just rant for 5 mins. I can only remember 2 Republican senators being on that show, Dole and McCain, but when they were, it was an attempt at humor. Dole and McCain cracked jokes, while Schuman, Gephardt, and Kerry got a chance to rip this president. I have no problem with them doing this, but allow McCain to do the same.

mannyfresh...it's a satirical show. With the Reeps holding the White House and both branches of Congress, OF COURSE he's going to rip on conservatives more. When Clinton held the White House, but the Reeps the Congress, the show was balanced.

Also, please name a political guest who doesn't fit one of the following categories:

    1. Ran for president.
    2. Is running for president.
    3. Is from New York (where, remember, the show is taped.)

Are there any? OK, since both NY senators are Dems, and since everyone running for president now except George Bush is a Dem, then it's natural those guests are going to skew Democratic.

Cheney/Bush are subject to re-election. Highly visible conflicts of interest inhibit those chances of re-election. The democratic process is implicated.

Keep feigning ignorance. Practice makes perfect.

Yeah, and of course nobody was talking about Haliburton and Cheney/Bush oil ties before the 2000 election.

Keep holding on to that dream that voters give a rats SS about this issue. Only a few smelly college kids who've never held a job think this is important.

As opposed to Whitewater, which we spent as much investigating as the entire 9/11 investigation is slated to receive.

Oh, sorry. I mean more than twenty times as much. My mistake.

At least Bill and Hillary didn't send a bunch of Marines out to get killed for Whitewater.

    You mean "Artillery Hillary"?

And, we all know what Bill did with his "Patriot Missile" so what is your point?

And only partisan hypocrites would deny its impropriety.
