Sigi was (obviously) a great coach and I'm happy he stopped by CBus, but damn, Buschie is still a great keeper.
At the time, it was the right thing to do. It took Busch that whole year to fully recover (as I recall he did not play much that season for his new team), and as a shorter keeper, he needs all the leaping ability he can get. At the time, without the reserve league, one just couldn't afford to keep an extra player, especially a keeper, at that salary around--and Busch would not have been happy being the backup that season either. I think the team will have to make a similar call on Hesmer after the season.
Absolutely. Busch = great keeper. Hesmer = mediocre keeper. But it was perhaps as kgilbert says, the right call at the time.
I totally understand Jon Busch slapping the ball boy. We got too many gay ball boys out there. Signed, Colin Clark
We have a whole thread about ex crew players and this post for what reason? Did he have a good game against KC or did you just feel a need to bring up the past? And Busch is a good keeper, not great. Greats are Friedel, Keller, Howard....
I often thought when I first saw Busch that his height could hinder him, but then having seen Tom 6'4'' Presthus lobbed twice in two consecutive games (it seems that way in my memory), a lot of goalkeeping success is all to do with positioning.
He is a very good keeper but always seemed like a a$$ with a chip on his shoulder. I always got the feeling that Marshall and he did not get along (just from body language on the field nothing more). I always guessed they got rid of him for that reason.
To those who are always harping on his height, Rimando is an inch shorter than Buschie and nobody has a problem with his quality as a keeper.
The concern was legit in the year Busch was cut, as he was recovering from a knee injury which did affect his jumping ability as he recovered. it usually takes a full year to get better. Sigi did not want to waste that year. It ended up ok for both--Busch is a starter and doing well for a good team and Sigi got a ring.
I never argued that issue, about his jumping ability being hampered. I was referring to people harping on it when he is healthy.
Perhaps. As a striker, I'd still try to beat him high.... But I *do* have a lot of respect for his ability.
He's making a very good case for himself. Also saw someone with a T-shirt after the C*cago game with a big hammer and Hebrew script.....
What the Hebrew Hammer has added to the Crew this year is a new perspective on the meaning of the "Wailing Wall!"
