How Philadelphia doesn't have a team yet with this level of commitment is beyond belief.

A pre-JFA brew yesterday with German instead of British hops was enjoyed yesterday. It was a shocking 9% Alc by vol. too. Nice work PopeDX.

So I guess a large part of this process is trial and error?

    No, very little is.

The "Pre-JFA" really had nothing to do with JFA, just happened to be a beer I made a month or so ago with similar malts :)

Actually, PopeDX might be able to tell you better. But if I can recall his enlightenment, JFA is a variation of a favorite recipe using elements (specific hops, etc) to create a taste that many elders agreed would be well received.

Oh, I don't really have any "favorite recipes", I've never brewed anything more than once. I'm all about creating new, unique beers. JFA is a unique beer that I'll (hopefully) happily recreate many times, and each time it should be very similar.

I look forward to the day when I have to brew 10 gallons of it at a time ;)

You might have to brew more Sunburned SoB too.

I just now read that. That's a great story, and sounds like a quality brew.

My favorite part was when you started making words up about halfway through. I may start using "WORT VERLAUFING SPARGING" as my battle cry.

The second batch of JFA has been brewed and is now starting fermentation (at a nice cool temperature)

i was thinking that the (supposed) ben franklin quote about beer could be added to the label somehow, or for the exclusive, limited-edition charter member version.

Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
