Whats even better is the one from the bbc site:

So even if jol WANTED to sell him, the board would not let him.

Fantastic news. Keeping Berba is the only way we're going to break into the Top 4.

I hope it puts an end to the ************ news 'reports' that someone is interested. Doubt it will though.

Managers are doomed either way. Don't say anything and it means he's off, say he's staying and you're trying building up a "the offer was too good" situation. Press will report it if they want to, regardless of what the manager says.

Great news, we need Berby to stay, and as Danners said hopefully that'll end all speculation surrounding him.

    Eh, it doesn't mean much.

Really, it's kind of up to Berbatov. If he asks for a transfer, I doubt Spurs would keep him here unhappy unless he goes for at least 20 mill pounds.

After a 20 goal season at spurs I dont think he is going to be unhappy and I can see our future being very bright with all the youth that we have on the team and the way the vets are playing. If we make some moves in the offseason to get a centreback then we should be fine.

It's not him being unhappy here. It's about him thinking the grass is greener at Man U or wherever.

We were saying the same thing about Carrick last year. He had a breakout year last year and fans thought it impossible that he'd want to leave us.

Jol's comments are what you would expect. If he said "We'd listen to offers" the buzzards would be swarming and would distract our run-in to qualify for UEFA Cup.

By simply stating "He's not for sale" it just delays the inevitable avalanche of attention that will be placed on Berbatov's future at Spurs. Also, it would give Spurs less transfer leverage if they said they'd be willing to sell. It's common negotiating sense for Jol to say what he did.

I take it with a grain of salt, as every manager would say the same thing in this situation.

Carrick situation was different as his contract did not have long to run, better to sell him for big money than risk letting it run down. Berbs still has at least 3 years to go.

IIRC, 2 more years. I believe he signed a 3-year deal with a player option to extend it.

Well at least we will be getting one more year out of him and how is the grass greener in Man U. Ya they have great players and a brand spanking new stadium and the prestige but berbs has to understand that he is the number one umbre here Carrick wasn't. Man U just lost in euro championships and I cant see them getting berbs. Berbs just won't have 20 goal seasons at Man U for the fact that playing time would be spread around and other plp rooney, ronaldo, giggs, scholes all want theres. He can be a stamp on soccer history if he stays with spurs he can get 15+ goals for us a year and that would get him into the football hall of fame or whatever the prestigious place is for footballers. I think berbs has been a god sent for the team and if we can finish top 3 in league next year or win UEFA or make runner up I see berbs extending his contract and staying till he is at least 30. If he leaves man that is going to suck cause there is no big man that I know of out there that is as creative as berbs in the box maybe crouch but he aint coming. Well scratch that Kanoute is but he plays for wimps and cheaters.

He's a loyal guy, stayed with Leverkusen through the boom and bust of that club. After losing the CL final to Real Madrid three of their players moved to Bayern, he didn't. He could have but he stayed.

THat is great to know. See how come players have to move around instead of find a place they can call home. Its sad but I heard someone on FSC say that there was an english player who said they would rather own a ferrari then play for the national team. That is just ashame and no wonder why plp think football is going down hill. Berbs gives me hope that loyalty will become the norm again instead of I have a new Bimmer what about you,

That kind of comment is useless without names, any idea who they meant? Unless they said who then it's just rumourmongering.

Look Jol said the same thing 2 weeks ago. Why does he have to say it again? The biggest concern is that Berbatov might be loyal, but if he's going to get 50K a week more a United or Liverpool or Chelsea, he can't pass up the opportunity to put his family in such good stead. So unless we double his current salary, he won't be here past next January.

Because even with the constant 'he's staying!' comments the papers keep printing that he's off. Jol, Berbatov and his agent have all said many times that he loves it in London, is very happy at Spurs and wants to stay. That should be the end of it. Aaron Lennon said the same about Berbatov last week too.

But oh no, papers print their stuff and force everyone to repeat it all again.

It's not to do with money. He was on £15k a week at Leverkusen and is now on £25k a week at Spurs. If he was only into money then why only the £15,000 a week at Leverkusen? Why not ask for more to stay? They sold him because for that sort of transfer fee they could rebuild several parts of the team.

A new deal will be on the table in the summer but there is only 1 club in the country that could afford to spend the amount it would take for Spurs to consider selling and that club is Chelsea. But as Jol just said, even if he wanted to sell for £40m the board wouldn't sanction it.

Amazing what a better value Berbs is compared to Sheva.

Do u guys know im wondering too if this is true or not. I mean do players in the EPL and throughout the world really feel like this. I know in American Basketball it was like this for a while with some of the athletes after the DreamTeam.

Let's hope that, when the time comes, they provide more than just nice words, and don't let our best players be lured away by the $$$. It would be tragic if a top player was willing to stay at Spurs but left just because the board weren't prepared to pony up. (Shades of Sol Campbell?) I know you can't be held to ransom but the club is in a very different position now compared to then - more financially stable, and closer to challenging the top clubs.

I really dont think that they will sell him cause they will make more money keeping him. His jersey sales will be through the roof, appreal and other things the club can make money off of will start flowing in. I mean he is only 25! He and Robbie Keane have something special up front. Zokora also seems like he loves it at spurs and wants to stay. If we can get a new stadium or make the lane bigger ( I really want a new stadium) then Im sure that will give the players even more incentive to stay with us. On that note any news on the stadium??

Campbell was altogether different. The board were ready to pay him £80k a week and he said he would sign, for months he continued with that, and then signed for Arsenal.

Why is it a case of "when the time comes"? because of Campbell and/or Carrick? players aren't all the same, should be judged individually and not on the actions of two from the past.

Carrick was sold because he wanted to go and because if Spurs had forced him to stay for this season his value would have dropped dramatically and next season he would be available for free. Berbatov is entirely different, he has 3 more left so even if he said he wanted to go this season or next he would still command a huge fee.

Wait...you're suggesting that 50K is enough to keep Berba at Spurs?

WELL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD PAY THE MAN! Pay him, get his new contract signed, and put a rest to all the rumors so that we can recruit some players that want to play with him. New contracts shut the rumors up far better than press statements from Aaron Lennon.

I just had to pay him 70K to keep him in football manager, so we must be getting a screaming deal...:D

Berbatov always looks so unenthusiastic that it bothers me, but I'm sure its nothing to worry about. Probably just his nature.
