Has probably become the best album I own, and I just bought it yesterday. Even casual Cash fans will love this one.
The video for 'Hurt' is pretty goddamn sad. It's kind of like a farewell video, like he knows he's on the way out. Kinda makes you think.
I got the exact vibe listening to it. Its bittersweet to listen to, on one hand its Johnny ************ing Cash, on the other hand, you know hes not gonna be around much longer.
You can guess where I stand by the avatar . It's too morbid, even for the subject matter, for me to speculate on when someone is 'on their way out', but the 'Hurt' video is probably one of the more chilling things I've ever seen on 'music television'. And Trent Reznor might as well just sign over the rights to all the royalties from here on, because the song's no longer his.
Excuse me for throwing a fucking wrench in the works -- but where were you all when JC got trashed for drug use? Because nothing's changed. He's just as cool now as he was when he baked amphetamines on the backsides of sixteen-year-old virgins. All city-pussies better worship him straight up, or not at all.
ouch. you guys are makin' me 'fraid to SEE the "hurt" video!!! LOVE the cd, and MK got it right; the boy named sue just out-reznored trent. what a flippin' GREAT cover!
Baking amphetamines on the backside of Gringa Tex? Actually, I liked Cash when I was still getting him mixed up with Roger Miller...
EEEWWW!!! simon and garfunkel???? good call, MK. i thought we wuz connectin', onaccounta bein' r's fans 'n' all! but paul simon???? there are several STD's i'd rather contract than have to listen to his bilge.
I stumbled accross the last bit of the 'Hurt' video will getting ready for work this morning. It totally blew my mind. After his health issues a few years ago (there was a major tribute concert on network TV at which his appearance was totally dependant on whether he could sing that day), anything new he does now is an unexpected bonus.
I got the album the other day and I really dig it. The title track is awesome, the "Hurt" cover is genius. I generally like the whole thing, although it isn't as strong as the other American albums to me. Still, a pretty good Johnny Cash album whips the crap out of just about everything else on the market.
