FC Volendam currently sit in second place with 5 games remaining, and the top two teams secure automatic promotion to the Eredivisie. Otherwise there is a playoff. Would be interesting to see what happens with Hilton if the club gets promoted.
He is mostly a Jong Volendam player with about 1000 minutes for them and 480 for the 1st team. He's only 20, so he might make the jump up 2 leagues. He is only a key reserve for the team at one league lower before promotion, so he has some work to do.
He definitely has plenty of work to do, though at the same time I’m getting the sense that the team does see some value in him. We can think back to how he started the first team’s opening match of the season and was actually on track to get a decent amount of first team minutes through the opening months of the season. Then things fell off a bit, but they’re still keeping him pretty active between their two squads. Interestingly, it looks like he’s been getting minutes at RB and even DM with the reserves. However something that may be a roadblock for him is the Dutch federation’s minimum salary requirements for non-EU players, something I’ve read increases to €436k if the player is 20 or older when the contract is signed (unless this rule has changed/has other nuances or Hilton has an EU passport by now). He’ll be 21 in June, and that’s a big price tag for small club with a player if they don’t see him as fully ready for the first team yet. Guess we’ll be seeing exactly where both the club and Hilton stand in the coming months.
He hadn’t made an appearance or been on the bench for the reserves since 4/18 - maybe an injury? His last appearance with the first team was on 3/18. Volendam did secure promotion to the Eredivisie back in April. Curious to see what happens with him this offseason.
This was the first leg of a relegation playoff for the Jong team. They lost 1-0 and Hilton went the full match. Jong Volendam played this season in the third tier (Jack’s League) and finished 11th out of 18 teams. However, there’s apparently some rule that Jong teams have to finish in the top 9 in this division, which is why they have to play a playoff against Almere’s U21s. The writer of the linked article agrees that this is a rather remarkable rule, and even more so because Volendam has restrictions on using players who played a certain number of first team matches while Almere does not. As a side note, the Jong Volendam manager is former Ajax/Atletico Madrid/Man City player Kiki Musampa.
They won 3-0 (with 10 men) to win the series 3-1 on aggregate to remain in the league: 1535637731547783168 is not a valid tweet id Hilton played 90'.
Moves to his former club Koninklijke HFC, which is in the third tier where he played for Jong Volendam: 1537676492351623177 is not a valid tweet id
