Any of ya'll know where this part timer who scored a nice goal for you last year ended up? Is he back at Charleston? Somewhere else?

I played against him in high school and try to see how he's doing when I can. He was a big-time attacking midfielder/withdrawn forward then, but he couldn't do a thing with his right foot even at that level.

He was on Charleston last year and we only borrowed him for 1 game. You could check the Charleston Battery website.

he had an awesome revs debut.

    1 goal
    1 yellow card
    1 minute played in
    1 game

his shot percentage is 1.000% - not too shabby

I remember his goal. I jumped off my couch and started yelling "Sign him! Sign him!"

You can't have him!!! He is a fan favorite "John-ny Wilson!!!"

Seriously, he is a great player and versitle too. He plays both D and M down here. He was trying out with a couple MLS teams this year and from what I understand, would be back in Charleston if he couldn't work out a deal with one of them. I think this is where the salary cap hurts players like Johnny. He's good, but I imagine he makes more than the league minumum here in Charleston. So he would have to ask for more and at this stage of preseason teams probably don't have much to work with. Check out the Battery forum at www.usldiscussions.com to keep tabs on him.

Liverpool_SC do you make it down to Blackbaud much?

I am really hoping to. I want to come down Friday, too. Do you know if all of the practices will take place at Blackbaud, or is there another practice facility that DC United will be using?

I imagine they will have a practice or two at the 'Baud but there is a practice field not far from the stadium. Its near Bigshop England High School. Im sure if you contact Andrew Bell (his email and phone number are www.charelstonbattery.com) nearer the time, he will be willing to help you out. If you want more detailed direction I can give them to ya.

Not to stray off topic in but Saturaday looks like it will be a great day for soccer in Chucktown. First it looks like the Three Lions Pub will be open for the US/Japan match in the late afternoon. Then the match against DC. Hopefully (for us Battery supporters) you'll get a chance to see Johnny along with our new signing ex-Rev. Ted Chronopolous, (just trying to keep this Revolution related;))

Plus, all he had on the back of his was his number [29] - No name on his jersey [Obviously yanked out of kid's hands who about to purchase the last one in the Pro Shop - in keeping with Revs tradition :) ] but everyone knew who he was after that glorious one minute of action.

    A legend is born.

I don't think that there can any doubt, based on these facts alone, that it's time to retire his jersey.

In the most memorable game we played against him in high school, he got 1 goal and 1 yellow card too. Our team was terrible the first year we played his team (he was a sophomore), and he had a great game.

The next season, we were drastically improved and made many teams mad by beating them - they still expected us to be their dormats.

Anyway, we played Seneca at home and a player who was familiar with Johnny stayed in his back pocket all game.

He did get one goal on a breakaway, but we were leading 3 - 2 with little time left. Dustin way overplayed him to the left and forced him back to the middle (and his "Achilles" right foot) before dispossessing him for about the tenth time, Johnny had enough and flipped him over his shoulder. Even at that point Johnny was built like a tank. He would do a shirt tear-off/strut routine that was really comical (after the game, since it wasn't allowed in the game).

He wasn't that bad though when you got him out of his on-field context.

How did I miss this thread? Wilson - The Cast Away - a legend is born. However, I must correct the legend a bit. He came in the 74', tallying 16 total minutes played. However, his goal did come in the 90'.

In any event, we're damn glad we got him back. However, maybe he'll see some call-up time with you this season.

Bribey, your supposed to perpetuate the legend not quash it. Did you hear after the game, he saved a bunch of children from a burning orphange? ;)

Even more amazing, he got the morgue to cheer!

I happened to be sitting in "the good seats" that night with a friend and was duly restrained in my cheering. Then Johnny came on and I couldn't restrain myself anymore. Mind you, this was way before the goal, I noticed his play and not knowing who he was immediately nicknamed him "Mad Dog." Everytime he touched the ball I screamed "Mad Dog!!!" Soon the whole section joined in and had a very good time despite themselves. Needless to say, when he scored the section exploded.

    Ah, spreading the joy ;)
