As of halftime he didn't start, didn't play, didn't make the sub's bench, and I haven't been able to find anything about him online yet. Does he actually exist?

    http://www.pafc.co.uk/today/view/breaking_news_detail/0,,10364~274118,00.html

Also, the article points out that he played soccer "in", not "at", Michigan.

There was a John Welch who was a goalkeeper for Macalester, but that's not in Michigan and he wouldn't be 20.

There is also a John Welsh who is in Liverpool's youth system and is English.

Nope, this guys neither of them. He's only on trial with Plymouth so I wouldn't expect him in the line up.

Maybe not, but that's the whole point of the Chris Bergin story Testudo posted.

I attend SMU with John's brother, and I have played pick up a with John once before. John's father is welsh, that is he is from wales, qualifying him for a work permit if he gets offered a contract. Supposedly John was offered a school-boys contract back at Chelsea probably 2 years ago. He is just returning from a knee injury. I actually haven't asked his brother what John has been up to recently, so this whole plymouth trial is news to me. I will see what I can find out. John is from Houston, and while I could not gather too much info from the times I have kicked the ball around with him he reminds me of a kirovski type player in style and build. He has a pretty decent frame (6 feet tall or so), and is good with the ball at his feet.

************in hell, welsh is my best mate, i went to school with him when i moved to houston and i play footy with him every summer when i come back to houston, he didnt got to bloody michigan or play there, and he probably didnt play cuz he left h-town on sunday and plymouth might still be taking alook at him, he'll probably play the next reserve match, he should have made it at chelsea and would have, without a doubt if argyle sign him, after a few years a bigger club will come in for him and he will play in the top flight soon. i'll just say this real madrid wanted to sign him while he was still in high school. keep an eye out for him, and his name is john welsh.

I work at one of the Soccer 4 all stores in Houston, and John came in there on Sunday, the day of his flight to London. He said he was off to Plymouth, and so it is only Wednesday so i dont expect him to be playing reserve action quite yet. Good Luck mate.

Welshy, which I don't call him for any particular reason, did not play in PAFC's reserve match against Luton Town today (Wednesday). It also appears he wasn't on the bench.

I believe he hurt himself fairly early upon joining the team. No idea how he has been doing in training.

Marino Keith is a heckuva name for a player.

  13. Not to overlook "young Lee Coxon". Too bad "the youngster could only snatch his shot wide".

let me guess, playing for the USA would be a waste of time when u can go to Europe.

From what I've read, reasons we might not have heard of him are 1) he is young 2) he has been pretty seriously injured at one point and 3) he appears to have already played in South America or somewhere.

In other words, somewhat under the radar. It may also be that he's simply not a world-beater. Here's hoping he gets his chance.

pething101, I already posted that! Incidentally, I got an answer to your question about US Soccer's list of Yanks Abroad. If you want more information EM or PM me, but in summary they aren't going to be much help.

John scored two goals for the reserve side in a friendly against the first team on Monday night. Not sure what the final score was for that match though. Maybe he reaggrevated his initial injury in that game and had to sit out Wednesday's match...

jonny is doing fine over there, he just had a niggle, he will get his chance at plymouth, he didnt play in south america, he went to real sociedad after chelsea but had some knee problems.he will do well at plymouth.
he was in one of the us youth team pools sometime ago and he wants to play for the bloody us team (i've tried to change his mind many times and let him know wales are a world class side but he won't listen) but when he does well hopefully he will get his chance with the us team.
