The Fiver reports that Arsene is lining up a GPB 12m bid for John Terry. With center half being the highest priority for summer (mine at least), this is a-okay by me. Chivu might be a better move, given his experience in Europe (don't forget euro 200). But I like the idea of three Englishman--Cole, Cambell, Terry--pulling the strings in back.
I'd suffer that, but rumours say there's only £ 10 million in the kitty though, be a good buy though.
No thanks Is this the same John Terry who hammered in the first goal for us the other day? The same John Terry who had his thumb stuck firmly up his arse doing "sweet FA" as Lauren waltzed in untouched for the crucial third goal? The same John Terry who's whining about needing a pay raise because he's not making as much as Marcel Desailly? The same John Terry who disgraced himself only hours after the 9/11 tragedy? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ma...port/2001/09/23/sfnche24.xml&_requestid=22394 Thanks but no thanks, sounds like he's a perfect fit at Chelsea.
Own-goal aside, Terry's pretty capable otherwise. Remember, he scored goals (for Chelsea) in both of the FA Cup matches against Arsenal and has been decent most of the season. He'd be a nice addition. Chivu's good, but I could give a damn about European experience. Wasn't that why we got Cygan?
Jwald, i KNOW you aren't comparing cygan with the great christian chivu.. he is a rock at the back for ajax who has alot more than just euro experience~ wonder what the pricetag is for him? phishy
I'm not comparing them, skills-wise. I'm just saying that we shouldn't just look at Chivu and go "Wow, he's played in Europe. That's what we need!" If memory serves, there was a similar line of thinking when Cygan was signed last summer. I'd love to see Chivu in red and white, but for the right reasons.
Re: No thanks Um..it would appear that you and Wenger are at odds then over this one. One of you is the manager of an outstanding team with an eye for talent and one of you thinks you have an eye for talent. One of you is prepared to spend heavy on the England U21 Captain and one of you think that is a waste of money......i'm left wondering which of you is posting on here and which of you is preparing for the Fa Cup semi-final?? You can't both be right. BTW...He'll never go to you lot anyway. You'll do well to keep your star players let alone try to buy them from other teams. ASIDE. Chelsea FC spent heavy in the late 90's after obtaining a Euro-Bond loan for 75 million sterling. That money was spent on Chelsea Village and all the surroundings with a mimimal amount going into the football club. Hotels and nightclubs and restaraunts were the business of the day. Now, as has been reported-however accurate we shall never know whilst Bates is in charge-CV (chelsea village, the parent company of CFC) have run into staggering debt because of these improvements to the ground. While it must be admited that CFC now have one of the best stadiums in Europe, never mind England, the cost is now hurting the club. Arsenal are doing quite well. Champs league money will be on the decline after this season. Is it still a wise move to spend so much money in todays deflated financial times in football terms? Could it perhaps have the same detrimental effects that CV is having on CFC.? Will a similar CPO operation (chelsea pitch owners) have to be started?
Enh, there are better options out there. Let him stay and score own goals for Ranieri, after all we've already got Edu to do it for us!!
Re: Re: No thanks Easy there. First of all, it's the Fiver, which is great but doesn't mind throwing out the wild rumors. That's all we have to go on, unless you have personal knowledge or something. Secondly, it's not Arsenal's MO to overspend for overrated English defenders - that's ManUre's territory. Third, Arsenal aren't going to spend £12 million on four new players, much less one. Hey, if Wenger buys Terry then I'll have to give him a second look - Wenger's track record is that good. Maybe Terry's grown up since September 2001, although his ridiculous wage demands - trying to put himself on par with Desailly - lead to me doubt it. I'd rather have Gallas. (Sheesh, the one time I disagree with Wenger and I get ripped by a Chelsea fan.)
