His players have noticed the difference in training. "Just the style of play that Coach [Kerr] wants us to play is a lot different than we have in the past," senior defender Darrius Barnes of Southeast Raleigh High said. "We want to keep the ball more. In the past we played a little bit more direct and played more long ball. Now Coach wants us to play more out of the back, keep the ball and combine a little more." .... Duke also presents him with other recruiting advantages, Kerr insisted. "Luckily for me, the resources we have, the scholarships, are different than what I had in the Ivy League at Harvard," which does not offer athletic scholarships, Kerr said. "The admissions standards are slightly less than the ones at Harvard, which is kind of nice for me. And I have a lot to sell -- the school, the academics are just as great at Duke as they are in the Ivy League, and the athletic programs that we offer in the ACC, particularly at Duke, are just second to none. ... "The resources are a step up from what I had at my disposal at Harvard, and maybe that was a big part of the reason why I wanted to come back." ....
