Of course not, MLS currently has a legion of young foreign talent like El Pibe Carlos Valderrama, The Mad Bulgarian Hristo Stoitchkov, Peter Nowak, & more.
is collins a winger or a central midfielder? if he plays centrally, do the quakes really need him? i wouldn't think so. if he plays on the wing though, he could be a real help.
Re: Re: John Collins in San Jose? El Pibe isn't in the league anymore, and teams are no longer built around Stoitchkov and Nowak. Stoitchkov is now a player/coach for DC, and Nowak is now with New England. The will most likely play forward roles, where they can be replaced.
He's as old as Goose (born in 1968). Does he have enough speed to be a winger in MLS? I doubt so, but I've never seen the guy playing.
For that to happen Jordan would have to re-sign with MLS and then the Quakes would have to trade someone to the Burn because once he re-signs the Burn would still have his rights, the same way the Quakes have Cannon's. Walker is a better bet as a new goalie for the Quakes.

Collins is more of a central midfielder/playmaker who did play some wing early in his career,possibly in the role of Ekelund. Although 34 I would say he has one or two more years in him. He played well last season for Fulham and I am surprised that he hasn't featured much this year. He is certainly one of the more "cultured" Scottish midfield players who had a great deal of success with Celtic before moving to a very succesful stint in France....I think from memory it was Monaco....before moving to England with Everton and now Fulham. I think he would be a good signing for the Quakes, but not a great one. We have Ronnie and I think they are similar...I guess he could play on the wing but I think that would be a waste so unless RM moves to fullback or wing I can't see it working. I wouldn't want him. It would be patchwork rather than team building to pick him up. At 34, you can't really build for the future. We've picked up some young players that will contribute for quite a while and just get better with time. Collins is past his peak (although I haven't seen him play, 34 is past anyones peak).
