You certainly can't stop every cross... no defender does. He did get beat on the endline but it was not really a bad game for him. I am concerned that he is considered by many to be our best CD. He is great in the air and is quite good w/ respect to passing... but he can be had on the dribble by lighting quick players because of his length. I really wish there was a poor man's van Dijk coming up the ranks for us right now. I think CD is a serious weakness for the USMNT pool of players. At any rate, Brooks has played one really bad game this season and was benched for 3 weeks because of it. Nice to see him back on the field and I think he did OK.

 

I was wondering what would be said about Brooks "getting beaten" on that goal. He did fine, the defender who lost the goal scorer was at fault. Brooks kept his man outside, didn't let a low ball through, didn't get run around. The rest was really good execution on the cross and a free header.

TBF, there ain't a lot of CD who can't be beat on the dribble by "lightning quick" players...

Dunno JAB is 100% our "best" CD, but he has to be in the conversation...

 

Definitely. And that's a problem, he's not that good.

 

Dunno about "that" good, but Brooks is one of the better passers out of the back, is good in the air and pretty confident on the ball. To my eye it's a bit weird that he does not use his size better in defense.

If memory serves, he started the season in decent form. Would love to see him get a string of games again to see if he can get back some of that consistency.

That's not one of their regular kits though.

 

Around here it looks like "the bloom is off the rose."

 

They didn't wear that kit on the pitch yesterday. I can't recall every seeing them in that hideous thing.

Solid performance from Brooks. He had a shaky moment or two but his long balls were impressive and as always he was dominant w/ aerials. Still think he is extremely susceptible to being juked by quick dribblers... but he is the best the USMNT has when healthy right now... and I still think he is the best LCD Wolfsburg has.

Wolfsburg won 4-0.

 

I only saw the second half, but Brooks looked good. He produced some long, line-splitting passes that created danger and his defense was solid. He played to his strengths.

 

JAB may just have got his job back, even if everybody else is match fit.

 

Only watched the opening 20 or so of the first half. 1st goal was just crap keeping tbh. Game did not look like it was going to be a rout though. Wolfs had to defend 2 or 3 corners and it was a pretty even open. Brooks looks like he's back which is good for Wolfs. (knock wood.)

Wow.... pretty impressive given the offensive output they showed.... Steffen had a brace... I would have bet on him for sure. Nice find Boston.

Seriously. I have seen so many ratings that were at odds with my viewing of the game that I find them dubious at best. Kind of like trusting that the formation Google posts for a game is accurate. Could it be?... Yes. But it is wrong just as often. I do think Steffen or Brekalo should have been MOTM... but Brooks played a good game.

 

Brooks got the Yank Tax. Take it out and it's a 2,5 or 3,0, which puts him even with the rest of the team or slightly above.

 

That's one way of interpreting the discrepancy of opinions. Obviously, there is another way.
