Mick! You know I love ya. But what did you rebut? Adam reported some data and opined, however conspiracyish. I would have expected a more robust smack down or rebuttal milad.
The ankle is a complex joint and non-surgical treatment is often the first choice for treatment as there are risks from surgiery that can result in limited/decreased range of motion, etc. All depends but not unusual.
i didnt intend to suggest anything conspiracyish..more just competency.i literally just repeated what was in the article and questioned whats going on when i look at how chronic and poorly healing injuries have been handled with players like brooks, reyna, balogun, pulisic, weah, dike, adams, sargent, and many others in usmnt history.....it just makes me wonder about the quality of care in these physio departments at euro soccer clubs. as someone who has spent roughly 8 years of my life in europe....i am well aware of data protection laws and how vague these clubs are about particulars bc of that...but its just weird how injury plagued the us players in europe seem to be ....and how their timetables for recovery are often well underestimated...just as they have been in brooks case.
Brooks has been injury plagued for most of his career. Id wager Europe is a complete culture shock for American players. The trainings and games are much more demanding, both physically and mentally
Apologies but asking whether someone can read is a bit of a red rag, at least for me. And since my other half is a doctor who spent a lot of time helping me deal with the results of a poorly set ankle sprain, I'd say I'm in a better position to than most on here to know the idea that there's some uniquely European reluctance to do necessary surgery is factually untrue. Most players experience a troublesome injury that won't go away at least once in their careers and Brooks is 32. He may simply have suffered micro injuries which have left the ligaments and tendons in poor shape and surgery riskier than surgeon or player are comfortable with. The possibility that an operation that would be SOP for other players isn't SOP for Brooks is a bit of a boring explanation for the drama/conspiracy-inclined but it's at least as likely
Yes, but the injury-plagued part, although not quite accurate, is very relevant IMO. He hasn't had many long injuries (2-4 months or so) but even in his early 20s he missed games due to "muscle strain", "knee inflamation", etc. for a player of that age. I'd also add that there were disciplinary issues in the past: nothing very serious but with a bit more frequency than is usual. The sort of problems that suggest a guy who may struggle with the discipline required to do all of the boring tasks to work your way back from those kinds of injuries. As for not going clubbing, etc.
I cannot find a single update from a reputable source since the injury announcement back in September. Any English article talking about Hertha (mostly because of the 777 Partners debacle that is still playing out behind the scenes) just notes that he hasn't played since he signed. Any mention of him in news reports from the club just say he's still not training with the team. Even articles about Hertha's future are unsure about Brooks' status... this article is titled "What could Hertha's squad look like next season" and they're just like "John Brooks hasn't played since signing, he'll probably want to impress next season" since he technically signed a deal through 2026. Whether or not Heartha stays up probably influences JAB's future... and while this year's relegation battle is as competitive as ever, HSC is on a downward trend. Since the break, they've gone 1-4-1, and one of the four losses was to a club below them in the table by two goals. However, they just fired their manager, so we'll see if they can get a new manager bump going (his first match was a 0-0 draw). They're sitting in 14th, but a win this weekend could take them as high as 11th (again, super competitive at the bottom of the table).
Bummer to see his career fizzle out after so much hype and promise as a youngster. He looked like he had all the potential to be the most talented CB in USMNT history in the mid-2010s. Only 12 caps since the Couva disaster / beginning of 2018 WC cycle. Not what any of us would have anticipated. I remember him being so good in the 2016 Copa America at age 23, and of course we all know about his goal in the 2014 World Cup after coming off the bench for Matt Besler.
Here's an article from April 17th titled "Here's how Hertha could plan for next season at central defense" in which it says (via Google Translate, emphasis mine), In good news, it would take a colossal collapse on the field for Hertha to be at risk of relegation, as they're 11 points clear of the drop-zone with 3 match days remaining.
"Only 12 caps since the Couva disaster". I thought he was a shoe in for more caps instead he got the boot.
An update from a couple weeks ago (May 1st): Now, before you open this link, know that a photo of JAB's injury from the start of the season exists, and the Berlin Courier has decided to use it as the "hero" image for this article. It's not, like the most disgusting sports injury you'll see, but I was NOT expecting it... https://www.berliner-kurier.de/hert...nd-was-macht-eigentlich-jay-brooks-li.2319974
Ouch! Jesus. Unfortunately, that didn't phase me after what I witnessed with one of my players a few weeks ago. Ankle, tibia, and fibula. Sounded like potato chips crunching and leg looked like a lighten bolt logo. I'm glad JB is on the mend. I really hope he can make a positive impact at Hertha. The club is reeling. They need to turn it around.
Oh wow, that's horrid!!! I can only imagine the sounds! Hopefully your guy is handling it well, getting a long-term injury like that as a kid or a teen is mentally ROUGH.
10-12 months out. By midnight of the incident he was undergoing surgery to insert two titanium rods in his leg. Luckily, being 16, he should make a full recovery but it’s long recovery. Sad, some jackass teen decided to scissor him from behind. Only a damn yellow. Good thing we record all games so all I had to do was submit clip to US Club Soccer and the kid was punished with a 6 match suspension. .
Expected back in training on June 23! Just in time to make a run for next summer's World Cup team. https://www.bz-berlin.de/berlin-sport/hertha-bsc/plan-brooks
