Sunderland fans raise money to remember Newcastle supporters lost in Ukrainian air disaster

I think this deserves a mention in our forum. Most of us may not have known these two fans personally, but we can all relate to supporting a club. Whether it be through just watching on TV, the occasional home match, season tickets or like these two gentlemen, John Alder and Liam Sweeney, true superfans who go far and wide to follow their club. It's a tragedy to lose one's life in perhaps the most unexpected of ways: on a flight to support NUFC during a preseason tour. May their dedication and lives be remembered, by those who knew and loved them, and those of us who represent a small part of the worldwide NUFC fan base.

And a special thanks to the members of our greatest rivals support who have put aside the drama of club v. club to show the true nature of a football community.

    With respect,

    Jay!

I didn't know either lad personally, but have heard about the dedication of how they would never miss an NUFC game, either in this country or on the other side of the planet.

Deepest respect to Sunderland supporters for raising over £11,000 so far too.

It's nice to know that even amongst intense rivalries we can see the things that really matter in life.

Deepest respects from NZ. RIP. Black bands will be worn in Dunedin tonight and the rest of the tour. Flowery wreath will be sitting on their seats that they would have sat on for those games.
