"Oof" is right. Scally needed to make some kind of play to stop that breakaway. Not that it probably matters at this point. 3-0.
He did. The guy on the break was the other guys man. If he makes a play and misses, his guy waltzes thru with a 2 on 1. If he holds it's 2 vs 2 (3 inc gk). Pretty standard stuff.
tbf... I was directing my "oof" at both Scally and the other guy. Other guy clearly thought Scally was going to cover more ground to win that ball that was much closer to the other guy than Scally... I guess so that he (other guy) could stay involved on the attack. Scally was very slow recognizing that and deciding wtf to do with the guy running at him (I thought he needed to take a yellow and obliterate the guy... and then scowl at other guy).
Scally START - Looks like the right midfielder in a 3-4-3, pushing very high on offense since I turned it on. And they're not losing horribly yet!
Scally made a couple contributions that led to consecutive corners, one of which was headed barely wide. They look like a Bundesliga-staying team through 30 minutes in this relegation six-pointer.
Scally receives a pass on an aggressive cut behind the defense - can't quite beat the last man, but took a very good defensive play to stop him.
Scally makes space for a lefty cross from the right wing, but plays it a few feet short of the only BM guy in the box, and it's headed away.
Scally very clever little chip pass out of a double team, but the return pass to him is a little too far in front of him. Then, fouled after the play as the ball goes out of bounds right in front of the bench and writhing around, but seems OK.
Of note - the assistant is managing BM tonight as Hutter is ill. I will now read too much into the fact that they are playing better, with excellent possession, and attacking runs coming from all angles. It's possible that Hertha are just bad and getting worse.
Scally stuffs a Plattehart cross, and then steals to launch a counter. Potential hockey assist, but ends with Thuram failing to get off a shot while being taken down in the box. Another VAR check?
No second penalty. Couldn't tell you why. But Scally's inteception and pass to launch the counter were good. Last play of the half is Scally heading away a cross in the defensive box.
Nice pass releases Scally into the offensive corner for a cross, deflected on frame, but too easy a save.
An insurance goal here would be abnormally important, given that they've blown a few leads, and although the early second half has been even, they have dominated overall.
Having lost all momentum, might be time to consider subs, and I wouldn't be surprised if that includes Scally.
Scally gets beaten by Serdar on a loose ball at midfield, and Ginter commits a yellow card foul right after that wouldn't have happened if Scally had done batter.
Too bad, Scally denied on a great left-footed shot. But Ginter scores on the resulting corner to make it 2-0. Good job by Scally, because he let a ball bounce a few minutes previously, causing a sequence that had resulted in yellow for Ginter.
Scally gets to the penalty spot, Thuram clever pass to split defenders to get it to him, Scally lefty blast on frame forces an excellent save out for a corner. Then... Goal for Gladbach off the corner to make it 2-0, which they needed. Ginter best reaction to the ball and textbook header bounces off the goal line.
