Fox Sports Pittsburgh is reporting that a decision was made in Joe's home that he would be stepping down and that Tom Bradley will become the new head coach of Penn State. I'll keep my ears open and report as I find more out. Also, God Bless Joseph Vincent Paterno. The greatest man ever associated with College Athletics. Retire when you want, but I will always remember you for the good you have accomplished.
also, my instincts are shouting at me that this is only Joe naming a succesor and that after 05, he'll retire. I don't think he is stepping down immediatly. For 2 years he has been pointing to the 2005 year as THE year
I agree. Joe is notoriously stubborn and has an ego that befits a man who has had 5 undefeated seasons and two national championships. He will not go quietly into that good night.
I think your right. There are now conflicting reports out there. Also, I've heard that a Presser might be on the way from Penn State. Simply, It think this is Joe naming a succesor, and the guys from Fox Sports Pittsburgh using the wrong words with "stepping down". Something else to consider: on monday, Justin King will choose between Penn State and Michigan. I'm wondering if the Board was not consdering this when they reportodely confronted Joe. Terry Smith, the step-Father of King (and former PSU player) also was rumored to say that he knew of this. Again, this is all rumor. But there sure is a hell of a lot of it. What a week for college football and rumors in the Big 10
I think Paterno should stay, we've gotten easy wins off of PSU recently. Why try to fix something that ain't broke?
yep, just about to post it. But you gotta wonder where all this started. JoePa has his call-in show tonight. That might shed some more light on all of this. FWIW I think an unofficial BOT meeting did happen. To many different reporting that rumor before the radio station went live with the report to completly disbelieve that
Paterno's exit plan should be public http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/10160176.htm Off Topic: I think Heather Dinich is very good. Wouldn't be surprised if she left for a bigger paper soon.
"It's more fun to be out there today than it would be cutting grass," he joked Saturday after a 22-18 victory over Indiana. "What else am I going to do?" http://sports.iwon.com/news/11152004/v4953.html Oy vey.
What about Jackie Sherrill? Barry Switzer? Jerry Tarkanian? Seriously, tho, JoePa's done great things. He'll be missed across the nation when he retires.
Joe Pa has done wonderful things for Penn State. They were a nothing program and now he leavs happy valley as the second winningest coach in Division one history. Kudos to Penn State and Joe Pa and I hope he will be loved at that school forever.
We still love him. Its kind of like when you have to tell Grandpa its time for the nursing home. Its something you never want to do but, at some point it might be a decision you have to make for the good of the family. I hope he decides to retire @ the end of 2005. Have a season to say goodbye & hopefully go out with a bowl game.
Paterno in better days. So What happened? Is it his age? Is he so out of it that he is no longer relevant to the players. I know football takes a lot of time. How does Penn State go from perennial national power to a 500 or losing team in the space of like 2-3 years.
I believe the main problem is Jay Paterno QB's coach/co-offensive coordinator. Joe won't fire his son.
Jay had been the quarterback coach and then I believe he was removed from that position. He was a pretty bad QB coach. He's probably one of the reasons for Zack Mills' regression. I believe that Chad Henne explained his reasons for going to Michigan rather than Penn State was because the QB coaching situation there was better than it was at PSU. How encouraging. I hope he goes when Joe Pa goes. Jay doesn't seem to be doing anything good for the program.
Congragulations on your win against MSU from a Spartan fan. PSU surprised us and I think the Spartan's overconfidence killed them. Well no bowl game for the Spartans .
