Called up by Richie Williams for u-17 team friendlies: http://www.soccerbyives.net/2013/12/williams-roster-friendlies.html
Gallardo had a hat trick against England in the US's 5-1 win. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-friendlies-behind-joe-gallardo-hat-trick-bra
He looks pretty lively. At this level he is physically impressive (though not quite what I'd call a man among boys, so to speak -- he's only listed at 5' 7"), has good feet and is aggressive. Likes to take defenders on and has some moves -- not just a "try one cutback" guy, but also not a showman. Not sure he is a breakaway guy looking for through balls. As for a comparison -- I dunno, maybe Herculez Gomez?
Quick decision-making, usually recognizes good opportunities to go one-on-one. Very active in moving off the ball.
Called up to the US U17 squad for the Aegean Cup: http://www.socceramerica.com/article/55833/us-under-17-mens-national-team-roster.html
He's been doing this for so long now that I don't believe "on fire" the proper term, I think the proper term is "one really really really good striker". He scores for fun down in Mexico.
He's had a phenomenal year. I saw him with the U15s a little over a year ago, and while he was impressive, I feel like he has improved immensely since that camp.
For what it's worth: Joe Gallardo is making a great impact on the USA U-17 National Team and is playing professionally at the moment in Mexico, with offers coming in from all over England to play their in the EPL. http://www.soccernation.com/derek-a...ing-world-cup-quality-soccer-players-cms-4435 That article also breaks what I would call pretty big news, if true: "The Nomads are pleased to announce that Joe Corona will represent the Nomads in World Cup 2014 in Brazil with Steve Cherundolo," says Mary Kaliff.
They almost certainly would not, which is why I didn't post this more broadly. Even the preliminary 30-man roster is not due until mid-May. It very difficult for me to envision a scenario that would explain how the general manager of the La Jolla Nomads would know the names of two of our World Cup players months before the team has been selected. (Of course, it's not crazy that either or both of those guys might be on the team, or at least the provisional squad.) With that said, I'm sure Ms. Kaliff is more connected than I am.
