"The media parasites have taken control of the host ..." Charlie Sykes latest podcast covered an emerging theory that the GOP has been hollowed out by a parasitic host - to the point where it is now a media led party. The Congressional leadership and the "party elites" have lost control of the base. Basically it is now a media led party - with some kind of parasitic relationship between wingnut media and Mango and the Trumpkins who feed off each other. We've seen that clear as day where Trump simply watches Fox, or consumes Twitter and then reflects that back - but at the same time, right wing media is an echo chamber for Trump's psychopathy. Especially they talked about the days when the RNC elites would fed their new messaging to the conservative bloggers - but that is all finished now and even the likes of Moscow Mitch have much less power. He doesn't get to say what the policies are. People like Cornyn hope that everything can get back to normal now - but that bet appears to be incorrect.
Donald Trump talks of 'another four years' during White House Christmas reception - CNNPolitics Trump, as expected, leaving the door open for a possible run in 2024.
I love that passage (well, I like all of The Divine Comedy) and an allusion to it shows up in one of my favorite 10,000 Maniacs' songs, Tension Makes a Tangle, where Merchant sings "but who grants absolution for sins that never were committed..."
Lots of people in here follow SCOTUS (though, in my own defense, I did enjoy the More Perfect podcast produced by WNYC), but were you at all surprised by the court's seeming reception to the arguments made at the recent ACA hearing?
How do you show everyone that there is no evidence? Hold a press conference and open an empty manila folder?
It's all unmoored from reality now I mean a certain amount of true believers probably think its all fraud but I feel it's become more like when your sports team loses a game you expected to win. Everything is an injustice and your team should just always be champions This is why I think Trumpism operates more like a lifestyle/entertainment brand than any real governance Anything can be justified because "the squad" "woke elitists" "socialism" etc The liberals should never be allowed to govern. Can we call it fascism yet?
Good all around. Trump would make the inauguration about him, anyway. Better he is not there. Let him hold a rally in Wyoming or something.
How are you so sure, when constitutional law experts that have been writing about it for the last year haven't been?
He is the first, I am willing to bet he will not be the last and only one. “Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) has been telling colleagues and allies that he plans to challenge the Electoral College votes when Congress officially certifies Joe Biden’s victory on Jan. 6, as long as a Senate Republican joins him in the long-shot effort,” Politico reports.
Actually, I will not be surprised if he launches his 2024 campaign on InaugurationDay and a number of GOP elected officials are present. It may even be a litmus test for GOPers. Will you be at Trump 2024 launch or Biden inauguration.
I mean its just obvious attempts at over turning democracy at this stage - which is what some of us said back in '15
This is the stupid focking right wing postion..... “I don’t have proof, but you don’t have proof it didn’t happen” I hate these people....if they started rounding them up, I wouldn’t say a damn thing
I won't be surprised if Trump tries this. But, I think that even by as soon as Jan 20, Trump's ability to compel obeisance from GOP careerist hacks will have waned. He's already gradually shrinking in status, day by day. And announcing a 2024 run means abandoning fantasies about overturning 2020, which will somewhat demobilize and demoralize the hardcore Trumpers. Plus, any party support for a nonsensical Trump 2024 initiative would effectively channel small donations to Trump's scammy organizations, hampering other Republicans from raising funds from the same sources. Those other Republicans REALLY don't want that to happen, unless there's no alternative. A lot of ambitious Republicans would probably attend neither a Biden inauguration or Trump announcement, and COVID provides an easy excuse. More broadly, almost every Republican figure who isn't a family member wants to watch Trump sink into irrelevance, without being blamed for contributing to his fall. They may keep their heads down in the cowardly fashion we've all become accustomed to, but they won't do anything to slow down the process of Trumpism's political decay.
Per MSNBC...Biden is touting his relationship with McConnell in a NYT interview I said it in the primary....and I’ll say it again....Biden is hopelessly naive. The Republicans have been engaged in total political warfare for decades and Dems like Biden didn’t even recognize it was an actual battle.
Or he's doing it to reassure people but most likely knows that you can't really reason with these people.
The obvious way for Trump to escape punishment is for him to resign and have Pence pardon him. I can't see Trump doing this but it would be fun if he resigned then Pence refused to issue a pardon.
Depends what you mean by reception? Are you talking about the Conservative Justices that wondered why the entire law had to be declared unconstitutional just because the "Tax" portion was unconstitutional now that there was no fee?
Agreed I have heard this already via some of the other Dem channels. Biden has 2 approaches. Bi-partisan and scorched earth. His advisers know very well the situation.
Clever politics. Set McConnell up to fail, then sadly go hard out with what you were going to do anyway.
