According to an article on ussoccer.com, Johnny O is going to play in Seattle in the Japan friendly due to a break in the Ajax schedule. So much for my theory about none of our Euros playing with the Nats until the Confed Cup Here's the article: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=28618&itype=
where? Do you mean in reality or in my dreams? I'm my dreams I'd like to see him team up with Pablo as the Central and play just behind Bobby Convey. With Donovanon the Right (heck even Jovan Kirovski, but I'm sick of Ben olsen, I think he lost too much and is now just an avergae MLS player) and Eddie Lewis on the Left (I'm assuming that DaMarcus still doesn't know how to actually cross a ball). Wolff (if healthy) and McBride up top. With Sanneh, Pope, and Bocanegra going across the backline. Actually I'd love to see Armas in for Masteroeni. I wouldn't mind seeing an Edson Buddle play alongside McBride either. Holy crap. I didn't realize just how good the team I named was. Thats a team that could so some serious damage and would be a friggin brick wall defensivly.
i'm excited about JOB playing v. Japan. i also like any line up that has either (or ideally both) O'Brien and Convey on the field. Stick them both in the middle of a 5-man midfield, and the US will be ok, now and in 2006.
With O'Brien, McBride & Convey available... Now that the U-20 championship in Dubai has been called off for 6-8 months, might Arena include Convey and Quaranta on the squad? I don't know that Convey will start instead of Beasley at MF but what about LB? If Convey starts at LB then Hejduk would probably start at RB vs Japan. If McBride is truly back in the US then it is doubtful that Quaranta (played a similar spot for the U20's qualifiers in Charleston) would start in his place. You'd have to believe that barring injuries, a backline with Hejduk-Pope-Bocanegra-Convey would look very good. Klein/Olsen-Mastroeni/Mulrooney-O'Brien-Beasley would not be a bad midfield. I'd expect Donovan and McBride up front. Keller in goal.
you guys are really this confident of Olsen? As I said, he has shown the same as an average MLS midfielder. He jus lost too much pace and quickness to be effective on an international stage. Especially as a winger. Workrate can only take you so far
Rest?He had five months rest. His return may well feature 4 starts in 11 days. He'll be fine to come over as of today.
I still think that O'Brien should have been chosen for the Top 11 in World Cup 2002 instead of Reyna.
Play JOB at attacking mid with LD and BMB up top. If the Bruce then has Bocanegra and Pope in the back and Keller in the net, he can just pick the rest of the names out of a hat and it could work.
I figure the Japan game could be tough. After not doing so well vs the Argy, BA may well want to take the results of his "experiments" on hold and integrate the new with the old, looking at finalizing a team for the Confed Cup. I bet he will use all available Euro-based yanks. McBride should be back, Everton don't have a game between 15 March and 6 April and he was supposed to return at the beginning of April. Having JOB will be a major plus, he is the USNat field player who plays consistantly at the highest level. I think DMB has solidified himself at LM, so I see JOB in the middle. I think that puts Convey on the pine. His time will come.
