Just saw a nice feature on John O'Brien on UEFA Champions' League Magazine. I saw the show on DSF TV out of Germany, but I'm pretty sure it's broadcast all over Europe. They showed some of his game highlights and talked about his coming to Ajax back in 95. They said the club and his coach Koeman are very happy with him because he's so versatile like the great Ajax players of the 70s. Then they showed him running to catch a tram with his buddies and forgetting to pay the bill at the café where he'd been sitting (although that part was clearly staged). They didn't say anything we didn't know already, except that: JOB is apparently a "passionate musician", and they showed him playing the bongo and singing with a couple of his buddies on a boat on a canal in Amsterdam. It sounded pretty bad and they admitted he was "no Stevie Wonder." Also, I'm pretty sure they said his Dad made a fortune in ice cream, which is why his friends always raid his fridge when they come over. I tuned in a little late, but at least I think that's what they said. Anyway, pretty cool little feature and nice to see one of our own getting a little press over here.
Obrien is a Star on the highest stages! He has done it! He is tightly woven into the first team fabric of a fantastic reknowned professional club(Ajax). As well as a highly ranked FIFA National Team Side(USA). That is pretty good for any young man. On top of the world...
We here in Australia may get to see the feature when the "Champions League Magazine" program airs at 3 p.m. AEDT on SBS. Will definitely give it a look... Cheers, William
