i am going to follow on UEFA.com but can someone PLZ tell me who the hell Sneijder and Van Damme are? i mean i do know who they are but know nothing about them? with vd vaart and galasek out does ajax have a chance?
Wesley Sneijder, left sided mid. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/Players/Player=57132/index.html Jelle van Damme, can play all over the back. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/Players/Player=62401/index.html
Buffalo, are they good though? My questions are...how does andy vd meyde stack as a forward, how much will be lost by not having galasek or vd vaart?
They're not missing much with Galasek out. VdVaartt, however--despite his not-so-great play in the CL this season--was one of Ajax's few offensive threats. Both van Damme and Sneijder are good, but young--the latter scored this weekend vs. Roda.
Of course, Ajax are fluid in their positioning, etc, but they may be playing five in the back, with Pienaar, Yakubu, and Sneijder in the midfield.
Anybody have a guess as to what Ajax strategy may be? Think they will defend and counter or try and get a quick goal then play the possession game? Any thoughts.
4-4-3 for ajax vd meyde........zlatan.........pienaar o'brien.........sneijder.........yakuba v damme....chivu....pasanen....trabelsi looks interesting to me.
i see them playing their typical style in this game, despite a different formation. i am not very knowledgable on van damme or sneijder but it seems pretty stong, i hope to see good things from pienaar.
Crowd at San Siro are in full voice. Ajax in their traditional white and reds. Game on. Ajax offside off the start.
hmmm, left mid. job is one versatile sob. i actually heard that he would be playing right back later this week due to injuries.
Cagey start according to commentator. Pienaar is fouled. Ajax free kick comes to nothing. Milan moves forward. Shevchenko forced wide after a nice run. Stopped by Van Damme.
Goal kick by Lobont. 4 minutes gone. Van Damme. Trabelsi. Ajax throw in. Boukari. Zlatan. Intercepted by Milan. Yakubu puts the ball out of play.
Now a 4-4-3 would be an interesting change for ajax... (but the ref might take exception...) Van der Meyde has played quite well this year as a winger/forward. I'm surprised to see Pienaar up front on the right. He had been filling in the 9.5 when vdv was hurt. This will be a good test for John at LM. Despite calling it 4-3-3 this looks like a more defensive line-up for Ajax as JOB and Yakuba also play in the back. Wish I could see this one somewhere...
Zlatan diving. Shevchenko. Foul on Pienaar. FK to Ajax. 7 minutes gone. Inzaghi to Rui Costa. Shot wide from a tight angle.
Great ball by JOB to van der Meyde. Nice run by JOB wins praise from commentator. Milan GK cuts ball out.
Corner to Ajax. Zlatan beat Maldini. Crowd roars disapproval. Maldini struggling with mask. Ajax pressuring. Zlatan just could not connect on a nice pass. Milan with possession.
Ajax with majority of possession. 11 minutes gone. Dida clears a back pass from his defense. Van Damme elbowed by Shevchenko. San Siro crowd whistles. Chivu forward. Kaladze intercepts. Inzaghi stopped by Trabelsi. Corner to Milan. Bent in. Lobont fouled as he catches.
