He maybe something of a late bloomer. Hopefully, he'll play better for
    Maintz.

After securing Bundesliga safety, FC Augsburg have announced that South Korean forward Dong-Won Ji will leave the club at the end of the season. The 27 year-old will join fellow Bundesliga side 1. FSV Mainz 05 on a free transfer and has signed a contract until 2022.

“We are sorry to announce this decision as we have worked hard to secure a contract extension with Dong-Won Ji,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter. “Unfortunately, Ji has chosen to join another Bundesliga club and we respect his decision. It is important to us that we have players in our squad who wear the FCA shirt with full confidence. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Dong-Won Ji for all his work and performances at FC Augsburg. We wish him all the best for the future.”

The 27-year-old Korean has made 112 Bundesliga appearances for FC Augsburg, scoring 13 goals in his time with the Fuggerstädter. So far this season, Ji has scored four goals in 13 appearances.

Dong-Won Ji can probably participate again in the first round of the team training of the 1. FSV Mainz 05. The striker is currently in the build-up training after his cartilage damage in the knee. However, head coach Achim Beierlorzer hinted at the press conference on Thursday that the South Korean is still on the mend.

"It will certainly take a while for Bell and maybe a week or two for Ji," said the 52-year-old instructor on the schedule for the two convalescents. After that, he once again declared his hopes: "We hope that we have the boys [Ji, Bell and Mateta, editor's note.] Already in one or the other team training session before the winter break."

Newcomer Ji, who came from FC Augsburg in the summer, has been missing the zero fifers for almost five months. So far, the South Korean striker has yet to play a competitive match for his new employer.
