Interesting read talking alot about scouting metrics focused around Jhon Duran as an example. The tldr is that Duran is and was a complete freak at creating shots for his team, he has a crazy athletic profile that he uses well to generate offense even if he's not making a huge volume of runs. Still think he's raw but as he refines he should become one of the best 9's in the world based on his raw skill. Another player they flag as having the same standout impact combing freakish athletic gifts with good technique is Andres Gomes, both were examples of tracking some under appreciated metrics by MLS with these young guys from Colombia.

Another tidbit from this article is that likely why Duran has done so well is the way that Emery has used him, keeping him close to the box and allowing him to be a focal point to get the ball in areas where his skills will be best used. I think that's probably a problem for us when Lorenzo is pushing him out wide often, all of Duran's value is getting the ball in central areas allowing him to get closer to goal.

Either way I think Duran and Gomes potentially are huge offensive assets for us to have and they're still super young and should keep getting better. We need to incorporate them both better to get the most out of them, I really do think we have a wealth of forwards who generate and finishing chances at a crazy rate in Diaz, Sinni, Duran and now Gomes too, we need to hopefully not rely on giving the ball to Diaz and get some of these other attackers into the box on the ball.

That's interesting because Emery made a shift midway through last season when he stopped forcing JJD out wide right. The minute he let him cook as a nine...

Yeah they show a stat and a quote from Watkins that Emery had him making more runs in the center and avoiding runs out wide, the stats show more and more of the runs were central and I'd imagine it was the same focus on Duran. Duran doesn't have a volume of alot of runs but when he does make them his conversion and ability to make something from them is elite for his age, Lorenzo parking him out wide will take away his best asset, I'm sure he'd still add value for us but it might be time for Lorenzo to start rethinking our formation to use him best.

He gets subbed on in the 64th minute gets a yellow in the 65th for an elbow backing into a defender.

The ref could have a checkbox on the yellow card with durans name on it, so they can just write an X when he gets it.

Reminds me of that famous story of Balotelli.

Forced a solid save today... Had a header cleared off line against Chelsea...

He continues to create goal scoring opps, so needs to keep his head up.

Speaking of his head, his headers were solid keeping up the momentum of attack; no matter from how far the pass came from above, he always perfectly directed it to his teammates.

That type of thing you see when you play FIFA and know exactly where you want to pass the ball to with a header.

All of his issues can be down to growing pains and can be fixed, good thing is the guy is refining and has to work without thinking he can just do whatever and start every week. There's good things and bad things about not being a starter, but considering his negatives I really do think there's a chance it's best for him to have to keep a lid on it to play. Eventually if things go right this guy can be one of the best 9's in the world, hopefully Lorenzo has a plan to tweak the formation again, because if that plays out by 26 you can't be pushing this guy wide.

Beats the entire Saints defense to score for 1-0. Kid is special. He has started 3 games for Villa this season... Scored in every one.

On top of being the top scorer off the bench in Europe.

that was a nasty goal by Duran. the poise to take that kind of shot with 3 defenders surrounding him.

    you can't teach that...

Needs to be less of a hot head getting yellows in international duty. Think he is banned for the next game

I also notice his "diving" or "pretending to have been fouled" antics. His face was never slapped but pretended to draw them a free kick.

    My guys... JJD has:

    - Six goals as a sub for Villa (the most of any player in the top five european leagues)
    - Has scored in all 4 games he's started
    - Scored 1 for Colombia in qualifying
    - Had 2 well struck goals taken away by VAR for offsides by OTHER people!

Has 11 goals and should be 13 in the first half of the season.

man goals like that just dont come for Colombia. Martinez wouldn't have made that silly mistake for the other teams goals nor would a South American team give Duran the space the other team did haha

tho the goals against them are def the fking silly goals we have been getting scored on recently
