Looks like he's getting a raise and Villa will make it much more expensive for a transfer in the future. It would make sense to sell Watkins and keep Duran from a squad management perspective, but that would take relying on a very different type of player in Duran, either way Duran will get paid more in line with his talent level which is good.

Jhon isn't ready for a responsibility like that just yet. Leave Watkins as is until he shows a significant decline which hasn't happened

He deserves a pay increase and the commitment. Did they report how big of a wage increase it was?

    Lol
He behaved like an a-hole and they rewarded him for it. Got the 9 shirt and now a raise. He played a game with high stakes and won!

i will say he won't be going anywhere now, no one is going to pay what they'll want for him unless its someone like PSG which isn't going to happen

Or any other greedy club that buys their talent and has the money. :whistling:

If anyone brought him that is already stacked, he would be one of the most luxurious purchases around.

Was thinking the same thing. Diaz has been their best attacking player after Salah and has like 14 people better than him including the 2nd gk I think.

He works his butt off every game sacrificing himself like mad and never complains about anything. Just the rumour of him getting a raise gets the fans mad, just for the sole fact he doesn't score enough. With Duran it's been reverse, speaks trash on social media, stabs his own team in the back, picks up stupid yellows almost every game. But he scores so no one can say anything.

Yes this season he certainly has delivered, so it's definitely the time to get that raise.

They are rewarding his scoring five game winning goals this season already and his showing a serious attitude adjustment after getting feedback for the shenanigans.

    He earned it.

Well the shirt number he got before doing any of that. And the pay raise is because by now they know he is weak and impulsive so he'd probably start flirting with any club interested on Instagram creating chaos and insecurity in the club.
That's how I look at it. I think he's got a Zlatan-mentality ready to jump from club to club.

That's not true. They apparently had talks and he reported to training and it was after, just before start of season that #s were awarded.

They may also have realized that paying him among lowest on team may have been feeding into his feeling like he needed a bigger club. Reality is that outside of a handful of clubs, he should be making more at Villa than pretty much anything in Spain, Italy or Germany (bar Madrid and Barca) just because of the wage levels by league.

My guess is they agreed that he probably told the team - you are paying me lowest on team and I can make so much more, that's why I am pushing for a move. They said ok, we'll give you more if you stay and get on board. Took months to finalize contract, but knowing it was coming prob got him focused in training and earned him the kit.

Imagine what we can get out of these two. James could lead the team far and pass the torch for the next Colombian prodigy to continue the team

They were up 3-1 when he came on but mostly managing the game at that point.

He looked dangerous and his positioning is really improving but the team did not have their foot in the gas.

Comms made a big deal about his coming on and the away Villa fans sang his song!

I saw the entire game, by the time he came on Villa were up 3-1 already and had mostly stopped attacking since Fulham had a man sent off, he had an approximation but that was all.

Villa didn't attack at all really when he came on it was actually Fulham who were trying to push forward the whole time when he came on.

Philogene got booked twice for Villa and also got sent off in that period of time too so anyway there was really nothing for him to do at that point

Watkins scored a really nice header earlier in the game
