Part of it is he is great at passing. But also Cano is great at finishing. Like historically good. So I do not read too much into the assist thing but it is a good thing on the resume.
He had 10 assists with an expected xA of 7 assists, so finishing above average helped him for sure last season. this year 3 assists with 2.7 xA so finishing is close to expectation based on the chances he creates so far. He's in 90th percentile across comparable leagues, so pretty damn good.
Man imagine how many titles we would have won back in the day if expected goals was used more than actual goals
He's so good.
Full game for Arias in Fluminense win. I didn't watch but understand he was fouled in the box near end of game but was denied a penalty opp. 📊| Jhon Árias vs @FortalezaEC:- 90 minutos- 77 ações com a bola- 33/38 passes certos- 11/20 duelos terrestres ganhos- 7/11 dribles certos- 1/8 cruzamento certo- 1/4 duelo aéreo ganho- 0/1 finalização- 4 faltas sofridas- 1 impedimento- 1 passe decisivo pic.twitter.com/RiK6GuE5V0— Fluminense Stuff 🏆 (@FluminenseStuff) September 3, 2023

This dude has got to start. Jhon Arias crea mundos a punta de paredes. https://t.co/tA7qkaGb0R— Goles en Directo (@golesendir_) September 1, 2023
Somehow missed it but he twisted his ankle last week. Already back in training normally.
Arias and Fluminense are moving to the final of the Libertadores after a comeback win against Inter away in Port Alegre!
I think he can easily go to a side like Porto and probably even bigger clubs too, the guy is versatile and can play across a bunch of midfield positions can play in a midfield 3 or a front 3 and you'd imagine a lot of good teams can use a guy with that kind of ability and versatility. You can really see when he was playing with James this guy needs to test himself in the biggest competitions because he has a game to execute and read the game at a high level with his passing/movement and runs.
Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar visiting Fluminense & Athletico Paranaense during a visit to Brazil this weekend. Edu is also said to have visited Corinthians & Palmeiras during his trip this week. 👀🇧🇷 #afc https://t.co/I2CNEElRNl pic.twitter.com/XSerHBTd0r— afcstuff (@afcstuff) October 16, 2023 Reports they are after Andre but it wouldn't surprise me they would be looking at Arias, they are trying to use attacking double 8's and they need cover for Saka, Arias would fill the roll of 2 signings being able to play as an attacking 8 interior as well as a wide forward. Haavertz hasn't worked out so far playing as an 8 so they could be looking for low risk alternatives.
Not young enough or the right nation. Also rather he go to Granada or Lecce and start and keep them in 1st division than get 10-15 minutes at Arsenal a game at best
top teams are generally not going to be interested in a south american unless he's very young with loads of potential. This has been the case for nearly 15 years now
that sounds about right. Although Mattheus Uribe went to Porto well into his late 20s. Arias is at his prime and could make a huge difference for any non-top Euro team.
Uribe signing was an anomaly. Like colombia beating Brazil at Copa america or Duran signing for Aston Villa for MLS. Also, I wouldn't say Porto are a top team
Depends on how you are assessing teams. Itd be a fabulous destination for him as a place to play. I don't think it will happen.
Yeah generally that's been the case for us, but I think the European market has drastically under priced our players and been unwilling to directly buy them from South America without smaller leagues diving in first. I think that is likely to change and older guys overlooked will probably get more chances with the insane values players are getting now and how high the cost is to sign players across the board. Ecuador players getting huge fees and this big market inefficiency will likely get closed now that the pay off is so insane, and Arias when you watch him is a clear higher level of player who doesn't really have a weakness. Hopefully he gets a shot somewhere at not just a bigger league but a good team, I won't hold my breath but I think the timing and his versatility and all round game should open doors for him.
That's totally subjective. They are the top team in their league, they play Champions every year (often advancing from group stage) and they are excellent at developing talent. It's an great destination for a player leaving SA to go. So they might not be a top five team in Europe but they'd be right at the top of my list of where I'd want our players to land as they go over to Europe.
Only thing I would be concerned about is playing time. People forget but Porto had a player like Diaz on the bench many match days prior to him exploding during the Copa America. I do not want to see Arias lose form cause of rotations or a manager just not thinking he is the right fit tactically. He is a bit small so we must consider that too.
