Even if there is no top interest from the best leagues this guy would be a star at a place like Benfica. The manager loves guys who can play wide and central and they've lost some decent players and usually have champions league every year, that would be a solid move without having to learn a new language.

Part of the reasons Lorenzo plays him centrally.

This is why we can play James and why Uribe is dead in this system. We need guys who can hold the ball and that can attract pressure and don't allow teams to clamp down on James, Rios and Arias are great at this, it also amplifies James skillset because he needs to find them with a tiny amount of space and then they can do the rest carrying on their own.

I noticed that some of the leagues have later deadline day. Portugal has until sept 4th and the Turks even has 20 days left. But since Galatasaray didn't qualify for CL he should not waste his time to go there. It hurts to see Andre getting sold to wolves for 25M while Arias has to stay but I guess they know that Andre can't save them from relegation or help them in Libertadores as much as Arias can. I wouldn't sell him either if I were in their shoes.
So unless something happens with EPL/spain or italy Portugal is his best bet. It seems like CL is going to be more exciting this year without a group stage and more like a league. Even if a team where to be knocked out I think they have 8 games or something. And portuguese teams are in it.
Otherwise just keeping fingers crossed for january window.

    Well done!
He probably got really pissed after that Girona offer where they bought the dutch guy instead. The dutch guy was second option for them. Arias was first choice I think.

I think Arias staying and being comfortable in Brazil is fine, but he's basically achieved everything in South America and is dominant makes sense he wants to test himself in Europe and as long as the fee is reasonable someone in Europe will get a very good player in January if he pushes for it.

Well he obviously is not comfortable any longer which is a good sign if he wants to leave this January.
Even though according to the article he seems to have been more upset about the collapse of the zenit and Galatasaray deals than the Girona one. Even if flu apparently could more than match the salary he'd get at Girona.
I still think it was for the best since the Turks didn't make CL.
Hope that EPL/Spain/Italy comes back with an offer in January now that he has expressed what he wants.

This really does look like what happened, Arias was quiet but clearly was ready to take the next step. Andre sale was in the works for a while and then their form was so bad losing Andre and Arias would have been a death sentence so they went back on their word over desperation. They're still only 2 points above relegation, but their playing much better and I think he'll still be able to get a good move in January, he might even get more control over the transfer and they'll be forced to take a lower fee allowing him to go to better situations.
