Oh look at that.. on WhoScored, Layun is the highest ranked left-side Defender of this year's Champions League.... Y la sobada 'apa?
He's played under 3 DT's now and constantly sending in good crosses wasn't exactly one of the characteristics of his good games
Look at the post above yours...stats say otherwise...one of his listed strengths on that site are his crosses.
Right, for his current club. So if he performs for one team but not the others, I don't think it can be said he excels at it
Deducing that conclusion from the facts provided are silly...let's see he crosses well for one club and not the other...why?...could it be that one club tactically plays to Layun's strengths and the other does not which is why the disparate results...no?...
Calling out a 27 year old player while he is having the best moment of his career is pretty stupid.. you should at least wait until he hits a slump. Its like the duses who can't get past Guardado's slumps as a LB with Valencia to acknowledge that he is currently one of the very best CMs in the world...
Well he is the best CM in a top league, on a team that is pushing to be in the top 16 of UEFA... what else do you want mofo?
Layun is still Layun. He can be good going forward but also gets caught out of position or just straight up crappy defending. Thats not stat watching but from seeing all of his games.
lol Eredivise is not a top league At best its a secondary league in europe The results of dutch clubs in europe say as much
Same could be said of Dani Alves... and yet he was the undisputed best fullback for quit a minute..... I think what is going on is that you guys are letting your self-loathing, insecure, chicken shit, inferiority complexes color your opinions... in other words you are Mexicans...
Come on fella. Hes not Alves who was already playing really well at Sevilla before he went to Barca Look, Hes been a positive for Porto, but that doesnt mean hes suddenly become a different player. Hes still a crappy defender and not an accurate passer. Its really cool that he scored against some low tier CL team and small portuguese team but that doesnt suddenly make him a different player. He's alright but hes still the guy that had problems getting on at Wattford.
And herein lies the problem/question... Osorio saw what we all saw during the summer, shitty and misplaced crosses from Layun time and time again. At the end of the day, we all hope the players can translate their club form to the NT.
tactics dont have have much impact on the ability to cross a ball into the area in close vicinity of a teammate
And that is what ultimately matters to most Mexicans. It's great to see our players succeed in Europe, but if they can't reciprocate that success with the national team then club success doesn't matter for shit.
Layun in his current form is one of the better players for his position in the world. The guy is an absolute menace when he combines his pace and the ability to cut in to create for himself and others. Defensively, I think he is decent when he appropriately balances the 2 sides of offense and defense. If Layun can successfully translate his club form to the NT, he is, imo, undroppable in the XI. Osorio is an idiot if he keeps an inform Layun on the bench because he is wrong footed for the starting left position.
Absolutely. During the Gold Cup, the discussion about Layun was essentially about the way he finished plays. Not only the how but the why. Why did most of the offensive plays end at the feet of Layun? Shot into the stands or a bad, over hit cross. Osorio mentioned as much without directly placing blame on Layun. If the FC Porto full back is playing on the left side but prefers to cross with his right foot, he will usually take an extra touch or two to set himself up for a cross with his preferred foot and that may be enough time for the opposing defense to reset and cover any gaps. If nothing else, it'll be an interesting experiment to see Layun on the right.
Or he simply was in a slump due to lack of minutes at Watford where they wanted / needed to use him primarily as a #10 or RM... Layun has been one of Mexico's best crossers for years now independent of a crappy Gold Cup... (I mean is Hector Herrera a scrub now based on a poor summer?) The point is.. the kid is 27, he is entering his physical & mental peak, playing in one of the Top 25 teams in the world and killing it... why not sit back & enjoy the show instead of hattin'
There is no hate. Its great to see players doing great abroad. hopefully he can continue to contribute and fix some of his deficiencies. But at 27 you more or less are who you are They still have untd away and cska that is no lock
