    Q. _
How are old jerseys typically liquidated when a team changes their design? I would expect that there is a standard way this is handled. __I got a long-sleeved 2002 England jersey at a good price from the FA website, and I would like to get an obsolete DCU jersey also at a good price, as well as for some other teams. _Can you guys bid for the remaining inventory?

    A.
We have a direct account with adidas and they have been out of DCU home jerseys for the last 6 months ! _you may or may not remember but we were the first to show pictures of the new DCU home jersey (on the DC United message board) around 6 months ago also. _For teams like DCU a set amount of jerseys are made and _unless they set an incredible pace early on in their existence (pre-ordering from retailers etc) thats all that will exist.

For a team like England there will always a strong after market worldwide - which is why you will always find England shirts on sale when a new one comes out _e.g _the next England shirt to change will be the red one in april - so you'll be able to get some good deals on the old one soon !

Cheers, _Iain (from deep in the old Oni*nb*g)

Jerseys typically run on a 2 year cycle..... bigger clubs can get away with one year wonders... Last year Manchester United started the year with 3 new Nike jerseys. Red, white, and blue. This year both the white and the blue jerseys expired, and a black and a white striped jersey were introduced.

MLS jerseys typically run on 2 year cycles. Some teams change both the home and away jersey in the same year. Some teams alternate a new jersey every year.

I dunno if anything I said helped....

It also depends on if they're is a change in manufacturer. For example, Dallas, Colorado, Chicago, and New England all changed manufacturers at some point. Older jerseys were moved out due to the switch and were typically at a marked down price.

DC does have equipment sales at the end of the year where they sell off excess supplies. That was last Friday, so you might want to ask a few people on this board if they bought extras.

If you're looking for one from a while back (3 or more years), you're best option is to check subsidesports.com (they are awesome and carry jerseys from all over the world, many from years back!), eBay, or a fellow poster.

BTW, which one are you looking for? I've got a 1996-1999 home version with the horizontal stripes, but no stars, if that's what you're looking for.

Anyone have a complete list of DC jerseys and their life cycles? Could be a nice section on a supporters webpage.

    This is from memory.....

    Home/Primary Kits:
The Original Classic Black jersey with the three big horizontal stripes was used from 1996-2001.

The Black with three thin stripes and mesh on the sides from 2002-2003.

The new Black with three thin stipes and the newer mesh 2003+

    Away/Secondary Kits:
The white and three big black horizontal stripes 1996-1997

White with three veritcal black stripes (with imbedded DC United logo on the chest) 1998-1999.

White with three red stripes 2000-2002

White with three thin black stripes and red trim 2003+

    Alternate Kits:

The Cat in the Hat jersey. Blue with red and white hoops on the sleeves. 1997-1998

Black with three thin red stripes on the side 1999-2001?

Mythical red/pink jersey. Never used in MLS competition. 2002-2003

True, although it should be noted that Rimando sometimes wore this jersey as his goalkeeper shirt during MLS games. And Ray would wear it on the sidelines, as well.

I think they were worn for the Boca game.

They were worn for the Boca game in One Thousand degree heat. That was the only time they were used in 2002.

This season they were used in the El Salvador friendly. I'm not sure if they were used in any other game, though.

What's the point of making a special jersey for just 1 friendly game?

Were those red DC jerseys ever sold or auctioned off ?

They weren't for just one game. They were supposed to be a red kit for United to wear for MLS games, Open Cup (which they wasn't so open in 2002), and friendlies.....i.e. it was an alternate kit. Just so happens that a red shirt with red mesh in the front, with a white liner shirt just happens to look pink.....so MLS nixed it for league play.

They've been at a couple of sales, I picked up an Alavanja one at the meet the team sale this summer, and there were a number available at the most recent equipment sale (presumably from this season's usage).

Usually the trunks matched the shirt, but in 1996, and possibly for a year or so later, they also wore red trunks with the white shirt. In this year's ES game, they wore black trunks with the "pink" shirt.

You got Alvanja's jersey? For the price of a few more jerseys you probably could have gotten Lazlo himself.

The shirt is way more useful than Lazy.

I only picked it up just to have a red jersey, and to complete my set of all United jerseys. At the time is was the only one either L or XL.
