If anyone is the dean of soccer writing in this country, it's Mr. Trecker. He's been covering the game for nearly 50 years and his reign is nearing an end. Every Monday, he has a column on US and world soccer in the Hartford Courant. Most of the time that the US plays, he will have an extra column or two. In addition, he can be found covering the Revs on Sundays. I'd like to take this time to ask everyone here to write him and his editor a thank-you. Thank Jerry for everything that he has done and that his work is cherished. Thank his editor for letting Jerry do what he does best, cover soccer (he also does NBA basketball). He may be around 70 years old, but his material is still cutting edge. Hartford Courant main writer is Jerry Trecker # 860.241.6435 covers US, MLS and world soccer articles every Monday, often more though Letter to the Editor Sports Editor: Jeff Otterbein
I'm proud to say that one of the foremost soccer writers in the country works for my hometown paper. Here is an excerpt from a note I sent to Jerry's editor back in April: I hope this thread gets nice and juicy so I can forward a link to The Courant. I'll let you know if I spot anybody's letters in print. - HWM
Been reading Jerry Trecker in the Courant for some twenty years now (since my undergrad days at UConn). Always puts out a quality product.
