According to Lalas and Twellman just now on ESPN at halftime of SEA/POR. There was a "blind drawing" between Chicago and NE and NE won the rights. Edit: NE confirms Welcome to the #NERevs, @Jermainejunior! http://t.co/2xTyxBq8Ok pic.twitter.com/98Lct5z1MO— New England Revolution (@NERevolution) August 24, 2014
Maybe I'll watch a Rev's game. Maybe folks at the local sports bar will too. I'm still skeptical about Kraft.
Lalas did it again Jermine Jones to NE Revs with that cheap ass owner and playing at that awefull surface I am speechless.
I'm actually okay with the amount, but it would have been better for the league if it had been closer to the end of the WC while he was fresh in casual American fans' minds. The salary I have a problem with is Lampard's, which is totally ridiculous.
Completely personal rant that has no bearing on anything - but I'm going to post anyway: Nothing against New England's team or fan base, but... welcome to NFL gridlines, a mostly empty concrete bowl and a stadium in the middle of nowhere. Hardly a league showcase spot. It's a shame. I feel that if they can get a stadium in the Boston metro area, they would have something to rival Portland and Seattle. I Jones was going to THAT future, as yet nonexistent stadium, I'd be happy to see the continued revitalization of one of the original franchises. But the prospect of watching games at the stadium? Pass... I probably watch three to six MLS games a week, either live or recorded. That's the venue I almost always skip. Really wish he was somewhere else
Well, doesn't the Doctor act like MLS does? He just makes the rules up as he goes along whenever convenient to the plot.
I agree, this is really strange. Last I heard, the Fire was offering $4.7 million, while it seems the Revs were offering over $5 million, yet they had a "blind draw" to allocate him between the two teams? Did Jones only consider the choices "equal" if he got more cash from the Revs? Or did the Revs just outbid the Fire, and the draw is nothing more than MLS trying to make it look like there was no bidding war? Have I followed this correctly?
That is exactly my understanding. He was willing to play in Chicago for less. New England meant he'd demand a premium.
They should stop referring to the system as single entity and just call it the TARDIS. The ultimate device for fixing anything you want.
Devil's Advocate... don't you have to give franchises that are struggling every opportunity to improve themselves?
******** all the complainers. ******** all the rules. ******** everything. Robert Kraft just payed $5 million dollars for one player? HOLY SHIT. Holy ********. Holy god. I can't ********ing believe it. I almost died of a damn heart attack when I read that. I think I'm crying.
Shows what a little negative publicity will do. Still goin ice skating in hell tonight....with a smile.
lol, when's the last time you saw a contract for 1.5years? actually i'm surprised it isn't longer. he'll be 34 when it ends and it might be tricky to score another nice contract.
At this point yes. As long as the rules are made up on the fly and/or unknown to the masses it is a joke.
