Don't know if you already have a topic about that, but FIFA changed the rules gerading a federation switch today thanks to the votes of African countries.

This means that players are now eligible again to play for their 2nd nation until they play for the A-National team of Country X in a official match. The complete "21 year old" rule was abolished.

Right now, Jermaine Jones has been axed from the German national team. Coach Löw has made it pretty clear that Jones will not get a chance to play for Germany again because he thinks that he has more better options ( ). This is discussed heavily at the moment in Germany, because Jones was one of the best German midfielders this year and a lot of people (and the press) can't really understand this decision. Jones himself is really pissed.

Jones has only played for Germany in friendlys that don't count. He would have been ineligible because he played for Germany's U21 in official matches, but these don't count anymore (see above). Fabian Johnson (1860 Munich) could play for the US too now.

I only have a German source for the new rule change, but it's from the German federation and should be okay. http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=500014&tx_dfbnews_pi1[showUid]=18544&tx_dfbnews_pi4[cat]=137

We have Damarcus FREAKIN Beasely why in hell would we call up a player who wastes all his energy playing in a big time league for a big time team? how would that player EVER have the energy to play in BIG TIME games against Trinidad, the Bahamas, Grenada or El Salvador?

HOLY $HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CALL HIM UP! Wait no we won't because we have Bradley not Klinnsmann:mad:

Not sure how he has any relation with the US but Jones is a pretty common last name in the states so I guess that works.

Only friendlies. And they don't count. He was capped because of his appearances for the German U21 in official matches, but those obviously don't count anymore too.

I really think that the US could be an option for Jermaine (his father is American), since he and the German coach won't become friends anymore.

His father was a GI stationed in Germany.
He also states on his homepage that he wants to live in the US after his career:
