    Though FC Midtjylland (like most other Danish clubs top clubs) do not officially reveal their transfer fees, so that it do not create some sort of a sales transfer value precedents, the Jens Cajuste sales price is rumored to be €10 million ($11.75 m), or €9m (+ €1m add-on's) according to Danish soccer newsmedia.

    Regarding transfers in general, then FIFA have now published the 2021 edition of the Global Transfer Report, which charts the transfers and transfer value of men’s and women’s players in both professional and amateur soccer. :

    Is he eligible to play for US anymore? I’m guessing yes since we’re still monitoring his play.

    I watched him a few times about a year ago, technically he is there. His defense is soft, he prefers to contain opponents rather than challenge them.

    Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if he hadn’t been (from what I understand) incorrectly told by US Soccer that he wasn’t eligible for the US, and that Tab Ramos was able to call him in during 2019.

    I mean obviously things have worked out for him as a successful pro, but yeah who knows how that error may have altered a lot of lives. Just for an American (whose brother I remember watching play hoops for Syracuse) to have been incorrectly told he wasn’t eligible must have been a weird feeling for him. Even the chance to put on a US uniform at the youth level might have meant a lot for him in the scheme of his life. And Berhalter and the staff of course got in touch with him later on, but what a shame all that happened…

    Another thing I don’t really get either is that if there were any concerns/questions about his eligibility, why wouldn’t have US Soccer reached out to FIFA for a confirmation/clarification of it instead of going rogue on an unclear situation, telling him that, and preventing the call-up? Or maybe they did reach out and there were mistakes all along the chain.

    So yeah, fortunately he’s doing well but it really is a shame how that went down.

    I'm not sure it was an error, but we never did figure out how Jedi is eligible with the same circumstances.

    There are separate rules for the 7 countries that have multiple entities that participate in FIFA events.

    The player who is a citizen (non-naturalized) of one of these nations must also meet one of these requirements:

    a) He was born on the territory of the relevant association;
    b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant association;
    c) His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant association;
    d) He has lived on the territory of the relevant association for at least five years.
    [This was 2 years up until 2020.]

    So, US citizens born abroad of naturalized citizens don't easily meet these rules unless they have lived in the US.

    The common nationalities can make some stricter rules about residency, but can't make the rules less strict (meaning they can't shorten the time required, but can make it longer or not allow residency as a method to qualify).

    FIFA can help with eligibility, but won't guarantee any advice they give doesn't result in a punishment down the road. They don't really like dealing with it until someone lodges a protest.

    This was a subject of debate in the forums here (maybe even in this thread) and I don't think we ever found a good resolution. There may be some CAS ruling or some other determination in the FIFA bureaucracy that clears this up, but it's not in the document they put out to explain the rules: https://www.fifa.com/legal/media-re...-eligibility-to-play-for-representative-teams

    I have decided just to let it ride until someone in FIFA tells us it's against the rules.
