Jennifer Nobis: Returning to Form and Field by Ryan Wood on Feb. 9, 2010, one month before the WPS preseason began, Nobis’ dreams of a “breakout season” came to an abrupt end. She tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee in a recreational soccer game. Eight days later, she underwent surgery, and that’s when it hit her. Nobis was convinced she would miss the entire WPS season with the Breakers and possibly not play soccer the rest of the year. But just one week after the surgery, Nobis began her recovery. A few weeks later, Nobis started swimming. By the end of March, Nobis started doing cardio workouts, and in late April, she could juggle the ball on her knee. She first started running again in early May. And one of those days, she logged five miles on a knee she tore apart just three months prior. She became a regular at Boston’s training sessions after a couple months of rehab, and she started working on the side of the practice field with a trainer to strengthen her knee and then on the field in full-on practices with the team. Great article Ryan! SO I guess nobody made the mistake of putting her on the Season Ending list... I just hope Sweden and the Soccer Gods are kind to Jenny and she returns home healthy!!
