I will be in New York City from the 1st to the 5th of December and hopefully will get down to Nevada Smiths for the game with Birmingham City should it be shown. (If so can someone please confirm the time). It would be great to meet up with friends old and new, and if anyone needs/wants any Arsenal stuff brought over then let me know. Also (as I am still struggling) if anyone knows of a good/reasonable hotel in the Manhattan area then I am open to suggestions. I stayed at the "Chelsea Hotel" last time, (no wonder I felt ill, (LOL) ), and don't fancy that place again. I have done a couple of websites, but everything seems booked. Look forward to seeing "y'all" then! Jeff.
it should be on TV, you should check www.soccertv.com and select Enland at the end to see when it is on .
I checked the internet to see if their were affordable rooms at any of the decent hotels in NYC and was shocked at the prices they are asking for rooms in the city at that time. I wish i had any good advice to give but the prices at any of the decent hotels i have stayed out were beyond outrageous. The month before Christmas is always a popular time to visit Manhattan with people travelling there to shop, but I still can't believe the prices. I urge anyone who reads this message and has connections in NYC or in the hotel business, please try to help Jeff out in getting a friendly rate at a good hotel. For thoses who don't know, Jeff is a credit to Arsenal fans everywhere, and has gone above and beyond to help many American fans see their favorite team when making the pilgrimage to London and Highbury. Let's repay the favor and help him out on his visit to NYC.
Jeff, I've had relatively good luck with priceline.com re: gettting hotels in manhattan. Given that it's xmas time, it may be more difficult but if you bid 75% of the listed price, I'd say you have a pretty good shot at getting the bid accepted.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. Keep them coming, and, oh, does Brittany Spears have an apartment in New York, and does anyone have her phone number? Perhaps, she can help out for 5 days (or years!!!) (LOL). Otherwise maybe some other "FRIENDS" can help out. (Jennifer Anniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox....)
Brittany Spears. Pass on it Jeff, she snores and I had to finally kick her when she ate crackers in bed.
funniest line from Love Actually radio guy: "Best Shag ever?" Billy: "Britney Spears.......I'm just kidding, she was rubbish"
A buddy of mine from Toronto stayed at the Red Roof Inn on 32nd St. and 5th Ave. I think it was only $86 a night, and this was back in August. http://www.redroof.com/reservations/inn_details.asp?innNumber=605 It's nothing fancy and a tad bit small, but for $86 or however much it was in New York City, that's a steal. Anyway, that whole block between 32nd and Broadway to 5th Ave. is Korea Town or K-Town as it's better known. They have a couple of other hotels on the same block as well including a Holiday Inn on the corner of 32nd and Broadway. Plus there are a ton of Korean restaurants, all of which I've enjoyed eating at. Anyway, here's another link giving you an idea of what's in that area: http://home.nyc.rr.com/jkn/nysonglines/32st.htm
If my buddy still worked at the Trump Tower Hotel I'd help him out there with an affordable room (you wouldn't believe the discount he could get), but unfortunately he left his job there.
I might be the lastest American Arsenal fan that Jeff has helped out. He got me 2 tickets to Arsenal/Southampton two weekends ago (great seats - just a few rows behind the goal in the North Bank). Thanks again Jeff! If the hotel search doesn't work out, you can always stay at my house in Jersey.
Sorry Jeff - you will not be able to catch the Arsenal this weekend in NY http://www.nevadasmiths.net/footfixture.htm
Try the Portland Square. It's right off Times Square, and a single is only about $100. The rooms are small, with very basic furnishings, but it's clean and the water's hot. What more could you want? Dick.
How are the games chosen? I had just looked at the FSW schedule a couple of hours ago and was surprised to find that the Arsenal game is not on. Does that mean it's not being shown in England, either? Dick.
you might be surprised but not all games are even shown in england. i know sky sports only shows 3 or 4 a weekend and "the beeb" shows 1. all games are televised somewhere. too bad it's not being shown in the US.
