I was watching when Jeff Agoos went down, believing that he had been hit by something in the calf - perhaps something thrown by a spectator. I remember someone posting on these boards about a specific injury that felt exactly like that. As we all know, Agoos ended up injured and out of action for many weeks. The same thing happened to me just this evening. No contact. I was manuevering with the ball in a warm up possession game with my U12's when I felt a sharp smack in my right calf. I thought I had been hit with a rock, until it all started tightening up. I have not been able to walk on it since and will be seeing a doctor tomorrow. Can anyone offer any insight into exactly what has happened to me? Will it heal itself with rest or does it require surgery? Anything you can offer would be helpful. Thanks.
There's something to be said about togetherness with your national team, but matching injuries...that's taking things just a bit too far, don't you think?
Spartacus, anything for the team Albany, same boots for the past couple of years. It's probably more likely an age thing. I'm 37 and never was much of an athlete.
I get the same injury from time to time. I think it is a tendon in the lower calf. The only solution is rest. I use infra red for treatment, but frankly, only not running seems to help. I can still walk, but running is out of the question until healing takes place. Don't go back too soon, it is easy to re-injure.
One of those sneaky little ruthless, dirty U-12's did it, simple as that. The old "hack and run". You don't see them coming and then they are gone, they are like friggin ninjas. U-12 girls are the worst.....they usually hock a looch on you during the act. You poor thing, you will heal in time but just remember, NEVER turn your back on a wild pack of 11 year olds.
WALK IT OFF!!!! Just kidding! Maybe you should see a doctor if you think it's serious. TRANSFORM MARI
Well, since this thread is here, I have a problem, too. Whenever I run more than a quarter of mile, it feels like something is pulling something from my knee up to the middle of the front of my thigh. It's this sharp shooting type of deal. It's worse when it's about to rain or when the humidity is high though. It only happens when I'm running.
Seriously, though. If you stop and do some stretches, quad stretches, does that make any difference? Sounds like part of the quad muscle is tightening up. Did you stretch it before you ran? Although it might be better to work on it after you've run a bit. Are you doing a slow jog to loosen up first before you run full out?
Yeah, Coach_Barry what kind of treatment is that. I know that far-infrared light/heat is rather popular in Korea and Japan and I think Taiwan. I translated a book on it a couple of years ago and have always wanted to try it to find out if the claims made for it are what they're cracked up to be.
