Japan to cancel match versus Uruguay Japan are set to cancel two friendlies in the United States next month due to security concerns, Japanese soccer chief Saburo Kawabuchi said on Saturday. Earlier this week, the chairman of the Japan Football Association (JFA) had said that the matches against Uruguay and the U.S. could be scrapped if Washington led a military strike against Iraq. But upon his arrival in Japan after attending the midweek Confederations Cup draw in Paris, Kawabuchi said the JFA were not prepared to take unnecessary risks. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=258125&cc=3888
non sense! then make japan go to uruguay.....they have a good world cup and are talking like brazil or argentina? they have no pergaminos, much less tradition, as futbol country to take that kind of stand. I wonder if they will go to the world cup of sub20's in UAE?
Japan Backs Out Japan's decision Saturday to cancel its planned two-match tour in the United States because of security fears brought on by the threat of a U.S. war with Iraq prompted the Uruguayan soccer federation to ask the Japanese to reconsider their stance. Japan was supposed to play Uruguay on March 26 in San Jose and the U.S. on March 29 in Seattle, but Uruguayan federation official Daniel Pastorini told the El Observador newspaper in Uruguay that his country will attempt to have the former game played elsewhere. Pastorini said the match "is necessary and important since it will mark the beginning of a new cycle for [Uruguay's] national team, which has been idle since the World Cup." He said Uruguay would propose "playing the match in another country that is not the United States." In canceling the tour, Japanese federation President Saburo Kawabuchi said that "even if no war breaks out, there is no telling how things will turn out." http://www.latimes.com/sports/socce...772838.column?coll=la-headlines-sports-soccer
