    Japan 3-0 Myanmar

Didn't see it but saw a minute by minute web report on it. Japan dominated possession in both halves but came up blank in the 1H, but they quickly found the scoring touch after the restart.

    Daisuke Matsui (50')
    Yoshito Okubo (62')
    Satoshi Nakayama (92')

that's not a good result for Japan. I expected them to score a lot more than 3.

Yeah, it's kind of sad considering they had the ball 70% of the time! I don't know why they couldn't score in the 1H. Maybe it was a psychological thing? I'm sure they got chewed out at the half.

we were not interested in humiliating our asian friends. it was just like the recent argentina vs libya friendly. myanmar was actually not u-22. they were u-20 and including the subs they had 5 players under 17 on the picth. they weren't pro neither. they're whole bunch of public workers. how can we possibly humiliate such a young pretty boys? it's cruel. the ultimate objective of mighty japan is to humiliate whoever act arrogant and call themselves "powerhouse". while we encourage those who do their best to show their sincere interests toward soccer we shall bring justice to all those who pretend like they are some sort of god and believe they are the only ones worth enjoying soccer. we will humiliate them by beating exactly the same score 3-0 or more and treat them same as myanmar

Regardless of Hamatachi's comments, I think people are taking a lot away from Myanmar by suggesting that 3-0 (well, 4-0 actually) is an embarassment to Japan. Myanmar played extremely well, and Id guess that they are going to be a very tough competitor in the next few U-20 championships. Their keeper was absolutely brilliant. I think a J.League club should try to sign him up.

Japan didnt play that well in the first half, but they made up for it by playing quite well in the second half. Hopefully they can maintain that sort of level of play on Saturday afternoon. I MIGHT even go to the game if it isnt sold out.

Yeah, I saw your report. Their keeper sounds great?
Wait, these U-22 games get a good turnout? Wow, that's great. I was thinking more along the lines of half-filled stadiums.

I saw more pre-match coverage of this game on Japanese TV than any other soccer game. For awhile, I thought that a big match was coming up for Japan. I saw an entire sport show on Japanese TV with Japan vs somebody(I cannot read katahana very well) on May 1st on the bottom of the lright corner of the screen.

I vaguely recalled Myanmar played with an U-23 team at the Tiger Cup where they impressed. Burma was considered a top soccer team in the 60's. They might be making a comeback????

Hey Matsu (or anyone else), how come there is only one Morisaki on the U-23 team now? Aren't there 2 of them?

    2nd leg - 5/3/03

Myanmar 0-5 Japan. Japan wins 8-0 on aggregate and advances to next round.

Whoa, looked like a rough game from the Web report.

Myanmar had 5 yellow cards, 2 reds. They were reduced to 10 men at 41' but were only down 0-1 at the half, with Moniwa giving Japan the advantage with a header off the corner at 33'.

Myanmar at reduced strength kept Japan off the board until halfway through the 2H when the floodgates began to open. Tanaka goal at 64'. 3 minutes later, he was brought down in the penalty area. Abe converts the PK at 67'. At 70' Matsui adds to his tally from the first game, heading in a Suzuki cross.

The drama wasn't over as a Myanmar player picked up a second yellow, for hitting Suzuki at 86'. Japan took advantage of 9 man Myanmar at 91' when Ishikawa heads in the cross from Nemoto in injury time.
