OK, Japan cancelled its tour of the USA where they were to play the Nats and Uruguay. http://foxsports.lycos.com/content/view?contentId=905880 My solution? Simple. Lets play Uruguay for our next friendly. Fills a need for both countries. Anybody see any flaws in this idea?
Either we could play Uruguay on March 26th in San Jose, when they were supposed to play Japan. Or we could play Uruguay on March 29th in Seattle, when we were supposed to play.
BBC reports Nats are playing Wales in San Jose on 5/24.... it would be nice to see them twice in the same stadium, but I don't think it could happen
I imagine a game against Uruguay is now being discussed, but I really wish we could find someone else. A European side or even a strong African one. Uruguay really aren't that good, they hack badly, and we just got done playing Argentina. Plus we will be playing Brazil this summer, and aren't we possibly going to be playing Columbia soon?
Any game in San Jose is a waste of time and an insult to our guests. I've said it before. I'll say it again.
I don't think there are any flaws, except perhaps the change of scheduling. All in all, I think that's what were going to see. Too bad, I'd have preferred to see Japan, but whatever. More practice against hacks might not be bad prep for qualifying actually. Guinho
we obviously know our schedule, but who knows uruguay's? did they have anything else going on... be it national or club wise?
I am horribly biased, having already purchased tickets to the USA - Japan game, but it seems to me that you'll tick off less people by playing in Seattle. I'm assuming that the sales for Seattle are probably stronger than the sales for San Jose, considering the home team was scheduled to play in Seattle, whereas two outside teams were playing in San Jose. Well that and San Jose at least has the E-Quakes, so they get to see Donovan and Co. on a regular basis, Seattle doesn't.
I echo your post, but have also bought airline tickets, hotel and rental car. USSF needs to start burning the candle at both ends to find a replacement. Kevin
"This game has not been canceled. The JFA has not told us about any plans to pull out of the games, and in all the quotes currently being attributed to the JFA, none of them say the team is not coming (but rather the report infers it). Thanks. U.S. Soccer Communications"
Here's a serious solution I sent the following fax to JFA president at fax 81-3-3476-2291 As a U.S. soccer supporter living in Japan I was looking forward with great anticipation to the March 29 friendly fixture between our two countries. It was with great shock that I learned of your intention to cancel this match. Please reconsider. The U.S. Soccer Federation says that it has received no request to cancel this match from the JFA yet. Your statement to the Japanese press “that it is not worth taking unnecessary risks” is understandable, given the current World circumstances. Yet thousands of Japanese fans are buying tickets to see Mr. Matsui debut for the MLB New York Yankees and American football, baseball and basketball games are still scheduled in Japan this year. Think of the message your cancellation will send and the damage it may cause for all sports played between our two countries." Here's what we do - The NFL, MLB and NBA have scheduled regular season and exhibition games in japan this year. We ask them to complain to their counterparts in Japan who in turn grumble to the JFA who will then back down by Friday. Game on.
there was an add for the game US-Japan during the woman game tonight on ESPN2 so the match will not be cancelled.
