Jerzy Dudek worth 10 mill yeah right. Buffon the best keeper in the world is worth just over that.

Gravesen wants out of England though if he's to be transfered, and there's interest from Spain and Italy. Carsley would be great as a presence in the midfield that wouldnt be looking to score all the time.

lol Real Madrid's president. He admits he knows nothing and has to rely on other teams for talent.

Meanwhile, Perez hinted he will use underhand tactics to bolster the Real ranks in the future after complimenting Arsenal manager Wenger's transfer dealings.

He added: "Whatever we do in the transfer market we will just let Arsenal show us who their targets are and then go after them ourselves.

"Wenger doesn't seem to make many mistakes."

This is the link - no reason 2 disbelieve it, could understand if he left 4 Barca...anyway good player for Arsenal was he. So Van Bom is da favourite 2 come in or Redondo Masch II? I would go Argy Bargy and bring in Masch, Saviola
and slick Riqq...hell, bring da Bom in 2 - it's all gravy! ;) Dam nearly 4got about that guy wassis name John da Baptist?...no...I mean Julio Baptiste da Brazilian of Seville or is it the barber? Either way throw 'im in the mix 2.

I'm kinda hoping that "Norweigan Trialist" works out for us. We need a rock between the sticks.

Just a thought, if Edu goes we have 4 1st team central midfielders, so if we sell Edu for more than Flamini cost, and Flamini's wages are less than Edu's does it matter if Edu goes ?

Edu is gone. I say we leave him on the Reserves for the Rest of the Season.

That was what i was wondering as well. Edu is now going to be a virtual cast off ala Wiltord last season. So we effectively have a squad of 3 fit centre-midfielders to choose from. Despite Cesc's obvious genius, he and Flamini are both still inexperienced and untested over a long demanding season.

Whether Wenger goes and buys a replacement for Edu in the january transfer window is a tricky issue, i think it largely depends on how long Gilberto is out injured i suspect. If he is indeed out for the season then i think Wenger will have to bring someone else in for the sake of numbers alone.

Will he go for an experienced performer? Who will demand a starting place when everyone else is fit. In the short term that is not so much of a problem, as it means the less established players like Flamini and Cesc, especially, can be rested and float in and out of the team without too much complaint. But what happens when Gilberto eventually does regain fitness? We'll be bottlenecking the prospect of either Cesc (our future) and/or Flamini, i also suspect Gilberto won't be too pleased with the situation.

Will he go for a prospect? (Eg. Mascherano) Someone who can come in a do a job, but who has the potential to develop into a more prominent role in the future. The problem with this is i feel that this particular role has already been assigned to Flamini. And signing someone like Javier Mascherano would certainly raise a large question mark over Flamini's (promising) future in the team/squad. (Incidentally, i don't think there are many youngsters out there that could threaten Cesc's spot in the side, which is why i focus on Flamini. It's a tough call to make unless you can find someone who can provide something different to either of them, Flamini being destroyer and Cesc being a play-maker. Someone like Mascherano just sits infront of the defence, breaks up attacks and plays incisive short passes all day long (think Makelele) but i don't see a great deal more variation in his play to Flamini's, except Flamini gets forward more often. There would still be issues when Gilberto comes back into the side but younger players tend to unsettle team spirit less if they lose their place. It's still problematic.

Also at this stage of the season, it's not really ideal to bring someone into the engine-room who is unaccustomed to the pace and demands of the English league and/or the teams style of play, which would lead me to look into our reserves for the answer. Johan Djourou being the only one who looks capable of playing a role sometime in the near future, although i don't believe he's quite ready.

For me the best solution would be to bring someone in who could fill play in a number of positions, either in central defence or on the right of midfield as well as the middle. Anyone got any ideas? And no mentions of Steven Gerrard please, it just aint likely to happen unfortunately!

I think Scott Parker is the type of player that perhaps IORP was describing.. he's not a winger, but he could play on the right side and centrally as well... he has experience in the prem, but would be happy to be in the team and used as a backup once everyone is fit simply because he gets very very little time at Chelsea, however, I doubt they would send him your way.

Great points. I also definitely agree with not bringing in established stars as that would deny games to the kids as well as cause a number crunch when Gilberto comes back but also because of the financial implications. The only thing is, I would like to see a midfielder with more offensive abilities coming in rather than a defensive type. Flamini, Gilberto and Vieira are all stronger defensively than they are offensively and someone other than Cesc needs to be able to provide a link for the offense with Edu out of the lineup.

Perhaps our wish for an extra defensive choice could come when Wenger finally takes the wraps off of Sanderos. I am curious to see how Hoyte/Eboue work out on the right side of the defense, though. I also think January will be when Wenger takes the wraps off of Van Persie. Are any of the kids on the reserve teams at all close to contributing? Larsson or Spicer and them?
