We need a PLAN B of attack and Beckham could bring that with his crosses and his free kicks. We also need a new Central Defender Ledly King best is the only possible target in england with John Terry and Rio the only other real options and i couldn't c either of them 2 coming. SWP could also be a great signing 4 us.

    Let's c shell we

Jeidi, and King. I can't see Spurs doing excedingly well thi season, so perhpas we could steal anouther defender from them :D, not like Arsenal are short on cash. Haven't spent much in like 8 years.

And i just want Jeidi he already functions like an Arsenal defender, running up the pitch taking part in the attacks and crosses. trianing with arsenal would only increase his close skills, much like it did for Sol. In the mid field, i'd like for LauLau to come this way, he can play as a sub for the underpar at the moment pires, and hes confident, something that makes Arsenal players tick. And yes LauLau is for purely selfish reasons...but I had to.

Well if Becks came to Arsenal at least we'd get Arsenal CL games on ESPN 2.

I think he'd be good. Despite the exposure of Arsenal in other coutries such as the US and the money he'd most likely bring in, I'd think he'd be an improvement over Freddie. Freddie just hasn't been consistent lately. Although I'm wondering if having 2 egos like Becks and Henry would be a problem. Not saying that either one are egomaniacs, but you never know.

Arsene Wenger has indicated that he intends to bring in "one new player" during the January transfer window.

it just has to be a BIG NAME central defender! i just dont see a tevez or a joaquin coming to AFC.. i'm racking me brain thinkin of who would be available.. and nothing really comes to mind in terms of a QUALITY centrehalf..
sperz arent going to part with king.. so toss that one out.. hell, it may be shaun wright phillips.. and a departure of Ljungberg to an italian club..
ya know how reyes was brought in to be a strike partner for henry, to me, he doesnt look near as effective as on the left wing... okay, im getting off topic..
SIGN CAMPBELL.. that will be an effective january transfer to me~

Beckham would be great for Arsenal's international profile, but on the field I'm not convinced. I wonder if he would be willing to move back to the right wing in order to play for Arsenal. However his passing is amazing, and although Henry isn't the best header i can picture him chesting down some long passes and causing havoc. I do prefer the signing of Ledley King, as it would confirm Spurs status as Arsenal's feeder club! King is also very versatile and could provide depth at a number of positions. Wright-Philips would be great too, as i think he is a future England star, but we seem fairly well stocked with wingers.

I would love to see wright-phillips in an arsenal shirt although becks would pay for the new stadium!

We will buy a cheap(ish) defender - i would like to have King but we would cost too much - i would like to see another english player in our team.

It might be that ajax defender we tried to buy during the summer.

Ignoring off-the-field issues regarding Beckham for a moment, I don't see that he would necessarily have to compete with or replace Ljungberg (or take time away from Pennant). He has been starting in the middle for Real and, according to some, doing well (offensively, obviously). It's possible that he could provide the same type of offensive contribution, linking Coles-Pires-Henry, that Edu was able to last season during his great run. Sky Sports recently had an article about Real being interested in Edu (though, I don't know why other than to spite Barcelona) so he could be used to contribute to the price tag. That said, as was said previously, I still can't see Real letting him go, given their leadership's obsession with marketing.

While King would be a nice signing, I can't see it realistically happening during the January window. I have a tough time picturing any scenario where Tottenham would be willing to sell any player to Arsenal. Let alone one of their best. Let alone a star defender. Once his contract runs out? That's another story. And it would be incredibly humourous. For us, at least.

From description, Trabelsi sounds like a more troublesome and faster version of Lauren (offensive wingback who may not inspire much confidence on defense). Is that really worth it?

It seems like Wenger has been spending a lot of effort on players from the Spanish league of late so perhaps the target will be from a lesser (ie, non-Champion's League participant) club from there?

Younes Kaboul, the young Auxerre defender (on the right):

    Central Back

He just made his europe debut this year on 10/21 against GAK so he is cup tied. He was said to have done well in that game. He can take free kicks. Apparently looked good in his league debut (vs. Toulouse) as well. I got this from a couple of different sources via google.

Van Der Saar is a bit old isn't he? He's probably got a couple of years left in him at the very top level before his age starts to catch up with him. I'd like to see a younger goalkeeper brought in, but one who's ready for the first-team. The problem is, we've had our chance. We could have had Paul Robinson and didn't take him. Maybe Robert Green could be good, but after half a season of top-flight experience, he'll need time to settle in. If anyone has any contintral ideas for decent keepers I'd like to hear them. And it's all very well bringing another teenage defender in, but we need experienced cover there now! Is an 18 year old going to make an impression on our first-team straight away? Unlikely. And meanwhile we're constantly giving away stupid goals from set-pieces. Rangers aren't in the best financial position, I'd like to see how they react to a decent bid for Boumsong.

Yes, but all the reviews I saw said he has played quite well. Even the best defenders get beat.

Anyway, I agree that it is unlikely that a 18yr old defender will likely be a suitable cover for our current central defenders. I'm hoping that he is just another one of those young players Arsenal finds and reveals to the world to be worldclass. However, we need help now not in a year or two. Hopefully, AW realizes this and makes a move for a player who can step in now and provide a better cover than Cygan.

On the GK issue, I'd be against a move for Van Der Saar. He is old and based on this year's performance, he doesn't seem like much of an upgrade (if any) from Jens. If we bring in another GK, I'd like to see a younger player such as Green. It is true that we don't know how he'd perform under EPL champions-level pressure but he has certainly looked quite good this year and capable of making the awesome saves that Jens just hasn't been producing. However, how would we have reacted if he had let in that easy goal last week for us? I imagine many would be calling him the new Jens and talking about the need for another GK.

Rick Breese reported that Robinson failed a reflex test when he "tried out" for Arsenal. I don't think Robinson is an answer. Green could be one for the future, but if Arsenal gets him now he'd rot on the bench.

He might have failed some test, but all I know is every time I see him for Spurs, and before that for Leeds, he's pulling off one or two great saves per match. And he now seems to have established himself as England's number 1 also. Tests are OK, but if he can do it out there on the park, that's the real test.

Correct I did, personally don't think robinson is much kop. I think green however could be a good deal for us. Hopefully something will come of it long term.......

Green has impressed me, he's getting shelled in every game and if Norwich avoid the drop, he's the reason why. When does Jens' contract expire? Hey Tim Howard may be available for cheap... ;)

The last player we need is Beckham. He is so overated it's not funny, plus he's a complete tw*t /airhead to boot. When we are crying out for a central defender and a relaible goalkeeper, it would be a ludicrous move and smack of desperation. I don't care if we
sign a central defender who's euro cup tied or not, as face it we are living in Rumsfeld/Cheney fantasy/denial land (i.e "The war is going very well, really") if we think we are going to win the CL this year. Please no becks *and having to look at that hound of a wife every week in the stands would be too much to bear. A defender Arsene, please...

Of course I'm not saying Becks is the right move, but that'd be one benefit if he did come. I honestly don't even know what to think of the possibility of him coming here.

I think Daedalus makes a good point though. Real Madrid are all about having 'Galacticos' in their lineup and Becks is just about as big as you can get in terms of recognition. Would they be so willing to let go of their investment and obvious cash cow? I think if Becks demands a transfer, it'd be one long, dramatic affair that would just end ugly and one team making Real even more richer.

I want the Nubmer 7 From Crystal Palace. He would be a great Replacement for Ljungberg. He has alot of technical skills and He is still young. Im surprised nobody has noticed him.

Just saw the French league highlight show on FSW. Kaboul was featured in the coverage of the match between Auxerre and Nantes. He took possession of the ball near his goal, streaked up the field, leading a breakout, and delivered a fine through ball that lead directly to the equalizing goal. Looked quite fast and had a nice touch on the pass. Unfortunately didn't get to see him in any defensive situations other than pretty standard man marking on a couple of set pieces.

I would also like to add to this, as I agree, that I used to be a big Beckham fan when I first started liking soccer - and knew nothing about soccer(!)... But then I became knowledgable about the game and don't care for him one bit. I too can name plenty of better players, much better players. Great players!

    He is grossly overrated.

ps I am in America and had no outlet of soccer to base my opinion on when I liked Beckham.

also, whatever inflated price we would pay for Beckham would be much better used for SWP.
