Interestingly, Universo and HBO Max are showing different things during this stoppage.

Others looking for solutions to the midfield issues. very hard to draw anything meaningful from games vs teams like this.

Yeah. Shots were 0(0) - 21(10). NZ is very weak. Hope they can improve a bit before they host the WC. ;)

I'd like to officially thank New Zealand for their participation in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

I dont think he is an idiot. I think he has a job that involves trying to get square pegs in round holes and win. Putting players whose history is as CAMs at the 6 is not an optimal strategy, but if you can still win, then who cares? My position remains that this squad is not selected based on trying to combine players who play well together. There is a marketing angle to it that cannot be ignored.

Getting 50% of their Team back from Club commitments should help.

I should mention this was directed at her and how the ref didn't even consider fouls.

NZ used to have one of the best CB’s in the world in Abby Erceg, but I believe she retired from their NT. Blasts from the past were Bowen Wilkerson Perceval Gregarious weren’t rostered, idk on what happened to them. Otherwise population wise, it be like taking on South Carolina

Heard from commentary that most of the New Zealand player veterans are with their clubs and couldn't play for the NT. So its the youngsters that were playing.

Can’t stand New Zealand. Even their A team has no tactics. They just play like australia lite but don’t have the talent to make it work. Zero organization. They get away with it because they play in Oceania region against countries with smaller populations than some USA high schools and qualify for every tournament with no issue. They should be forced into an intercontinental playoff imo. the men are.

There are teams with low quality who at least give better teams a fight with decent tactics.

So, who in 2023 is the best player on the U.S. squad: Lavelle or Swanson?

Ok. But weren’t we playing quite a fair number of youngsters too?

Depends on what you consider a youngster. All of them are playing professionally and all have have USWNT caps. Rodman, Sanchez, and Girma have the least amount of CAPs but don't know if I would consider them youngsters at this point.

Rose. She is the most technical, creative, impactful player we have. Pugh is crazy fast. But she doesn't have the overall sophistication to her game that Rose does, in my opinion.

And of those 3 the one that I'm absolutely most impressed with is Girma. For me, she came out of nowhere, and I'm just about ready to give her the starting RCB spot. But to be fair, I need to see her keep this form up for a longer duration and against quality opposition.

How about comparing the team rolled out for the first half of game 1 to the team rolled out for Game 2? I didnt see anything on that.
I thought team 2 was far better. Specifically Rose was better handling the ball and looked far better than Horan and Morgan not playing was an asset. Vlat has to start settling on the BEST "A" team and that doesn't mean necessarily his little favs. Game 2 players played faster and better. Scored 2 goals in the first half. Vlat has to see the difference. There are also a few he needs to cut loose at this point and stop wasting minutes on them. Sorry but if any of the injured players come back, theyre getting bumped off anyway. Dont do what GB did on the mens side in bringing 1/2 a team he wouldnt put on the field

Rose Lavelle. I still think she should have won the golden boot in 2019.
