Training camp opened today, who was there to see the beginning of the Best Year Ever in Columbus soccer? Is Schelotto in town? Did he bring Palermo with him? Did Ezra make it to training from the nursing home? Did the goofy kid from Azuza Pacific even show up to pursue a professional career? This is our year.
name the six teams we're better than....... I'm not trying to be a big bucket of cold water here, I'm just adding to the conversation.... here's my list: Toronto KC RSL Colorado LA SJ I say we squeaky in.... I have no evidence to back up that claim. Just came right out of the old stinky orifice
This season would be a success so abundant that it would rival our revolution victory over England if we didn't finish dead last.
A bunch of the Hudson Street Holigans are going to try and go up tomorrow, around 10am. I'm hoping to make it. By the way, if everything is settled with Guille, as it seems to be, and IF the Crew make that big splash in the transfer market, does that change the "we're barely better than 6 teams" opinion?
Sadly, I'd say yes. Unless the "big splash" you refer to really pans out. As in is being a striker capable of Juan Pablo Angel-ish kinds of numbers. There's reason to believe our youngsters (esp. Gaven and Roberts) will have a decent year but we just lost the heart of our defense. Goodness knows what, if anything, Sigi has planned in that regard. I'd say that "big splash" has to = two new starters for this club, otherwise we'll be in another end of the season last playoff spot battle. What's really disgusting is reading something like this: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2008/01/things_you_should_know_about_d.html Five...FIVE new players.
Mitchell's blog today: http://blog.dispatch.com/crew/ Zayner's got to be pulling his hair out. Andy Iro (a rookie) and Tim Ward (to this point, a waste) get mentioned before him in the defensive discussion. Hey Fat Man, give Zayner a shot. Not that he's the answer, but he could help. Also, no mention of Ezra. I know I'm reading way too much into this, but doggone it, it's the preseason.
That's why they are D.C. United, and we're not. Still, the window hasn't closed yet, I hope we can still improve our team. For the record: D.C. looks to have done the best, LA added Ruiz (losing Albright), and RSL has made some nice additions, as have Dallas. N.E. and KC look to have lost the most. Though the Revs did get Albright. If Twellman goes or is not happy, and Ralston plays his age (will this ever happen), the Revs could be in for a tumble, even with Joseph and Parkhusrt in the middle. Unless Colorado lands Gomez, they are at the bottom with K.C. I think everyone else is in with a shout.
no... we suk - winning games consistantly will change my mind. Having said that, I'm still hoping for a miracle (like the rest of you)... Think of me as one of the grounds keepers in Major League (who the f$cK are these guys ?)
Well, he didn't mention Hejduk, either. I checked the Chicago board for any positive comments about Leonard Griffin, and there were none. Zero. A complete waste of space pretty much summed up their opinion of him. Junge and Peterson seem like incredibly long shots. Schmid tried to move Zayner to the DL last year when he reportedly wasn't injured to open up a developmental roster spot. It can't get much worse than that. Ward obviously hasn't impressed to this point. It is still preseason, but you have to worried a bit about all the "options" the Crew supposedly have. Apparently Iro has been signed? What about the other draftees?
